IN SUMMARY: WATERSMEET is a very good horse and loves it on the all weather having won numerous times on this surface including over course and distance, he looks a solid choice and can go in at the expense of smart dual purpose performer High Secret.

1 WATERSMEET – Has won half of his sixteen starts on the all weather but was tailed off in the Cesarewitch when last season, there is the suspicion that he is better on the artificial surface and he will be happy to return to it today, goes here with a big chance.

2 BATTESEA – This son of Galileo hasn’t been at his best of late but has dropped to a mark of 100 which based on some of his old form looks a rather attractive mark, makes all weather debut today and could go well if taking a liking to the conditions.

3 LORD GEORGE – Ran a massive race when beaten under two lengths in the Northumberland Plate and a similar performance wouldn’t see him far away in this type of race but he needs to bounce back after two below par efforts on the bounce.

4 AUSSIE REIGNS – Made the switch to Gary Moore from Willie Mullins recently and certainly didn’t light up the track when beaten forty-one lengths into last on his stable debut, needs to find big improvement to have a chance here.

5 HIGH SECRET – Reached a useful level over hurdles last season including when fourth in a Grade 1 at Aintree, possesses a hot piece of handicap form having split Top Tug and Blakeney Point and has a chance if you can ignore his last run where he might have been in too deep.

6 BARYE – Hasn’t won since January 2016 and has turned in a string of poor efforts this term but on his best form he is well treated and has always run to his best at this track, risky but not completely out of it.

7 JOSHUA REYNOLDS – Hasn’t always looked the easiest ride and has been well beaten the last twice but had the profile of a typically progressive John Gosden three year old before that and would be a danger to all if returning to the form of his wins.
