5.00pm Newmarket Tips & Betting Preview 17/09/2016

Our race preview takes a look at a tricky handicap at Newmarket. See our betting tips below to uncover a horse with untapped potential who can put it too good use in this race.

IN SUMMARY: Dubka is a very well bred filly for top connections and a 4lb rise seems fair for her latest win at Salisbury. However John Gosden’s ELRAAZY posted a brilliant effort when grinding out victory at Haydock latest and that was only her 2nd run, and Frankie takes over today. She has a fantastic pedigree and more is expected from her today.

1 STOCKHILL DIVA – Posted some decent efforts, most recently at this venue in awful conditions back in June (1m4f, Heavy). Last two efforts have been a bit flat but were in better company so possibly can be forgiven. Probably very vulnerable to a more progressive horse, and there are a few of those in today’s race.

2 DUBKA – Very well bred for top connections, who ran well to take a Class 2 Handicap at Salisbury latest (1m4f, Good to Firm). Has been coming on leaps and bounds with every single run and there are no signs of this progression coming to an end. A 4lb rise seems fair and she can’t be discounted with any sort of confidence, but it is very hard to land a four-timer.

3 EAGER BEAVER – Back to back victories at this trip at Leicester (1m4f, Good to Firm) and Salisbury (1m4f, Soft) before flopping back over that C&D 9 days later. Seems pretty consistent other than that blip but would need a career best to take this.

4 TALENT TO AMUSE – Latest 4th at Newbury (1m5f, Good to Firm) was a decent effort but it seems as though her improvement is petering out. Might struggle against some more progressive filly’s in this field, and needs a career best on previous evidence.

5 ELZAARY – Modest debut at Lingfield (1m2f, AW) before showing marked improvement when grinding out victory at Haydock latest (1m4f, Good). There was a lot to like about that performance and she clearly has a great attitude to fighting out the finish. Will obviously need to show even more progress to take this race but that isn’t out of the question and Frankie takes to the saddle today.

6 GALA – 2 modest efforts so far, the latest when getting off of the mark at Catterick (1m4f, Good). Opening mark seems very generous and that commands a big amount of respect, but she is clearly the stable second string as Frankie jumps on Elraazy, needs considering all the same.

myracing Forecast Prices: 6/4 Dubka, 5/2 Elraazy, 5/1 Gala, 10/1 Talent To Amuse, 16/1 Stockhill Diva, 20/1 Eager Beaver
