4.50pm Wolverhampton Tips & Betting Preview 07/03/2016

IN SUMMARY: The suggestion is MASTERPAVER, who is on a fairly long losing run and comes with some risks attached but was probably ridden with a bit too much patience when last in action and is arguably the best handicapped runner in a field of fairly exposed participants. First Mohican and Paddy’s Motorbike both have sound credentials and are also likely to be in the thick of things.

1 FIRST MOHICAN – Probably not quite as good as he once was but scored over 1m6f here in December and would almost certainly have preferred a stronger pace when runner-up over today’s trip at Lingfield in January; can make his presence felt again.

2 WINTERLUDE – Didn’t take to hurdling in September but has returned from break in decent nick back on the Flat this year and won over 1m2f at Lingfield in January; not in same form when beaten favourite at Chelmsford last month but will be fine over this C&D and enters calculation.

3 CASTILO DEL DIABLO – Faced fairly tough assignment when comfortably held in 2m conditions race last month but hasn’t really been firing on all cylinders this year; without a win since March 2014 and, over today’s trip, is reliant on others setting a very strong pace.

4 PADDY’S MOTORBIKE – Appeared to find the extended 2m too taxing here last month but was a C&D winner in January and quickly got back on track when third over today’s trip at Lingfield nine days ago; remains on career-high mark but might still have some improvement in him.

5 MASTERPAVER – Seems to have become quite tricky to win with (current losing run stretches back to 2014) but he was probably given a bit too much to do when staying-on fifth at Lingfield (1m4f) recently and continue to lurk on a handy mark; can’t be ruled out.

6 SPES NOSTRA – Beaten out of sight on last month’s stable debut but was given good tactical ride from the front to cause 28-1 surprise over 9.4f here ten days ago; raised 5lb for that but will be fine over today’s trip and is evidently right back in form now.

7 WORDINESS – Enjoyed very productive 2015, winning five times over staying trips (once on Tapeta); can be excused his defeat in the Cesarewitch on latest outing in October but returns from break on career-high mark and may find 1m4f a bit sharp nowadays.

8 SBRAASE – Was in good form at around this time last year, including when hitting the target over C&D, and made satisfactory return from absence when midfield over 9.4f here last month; remains on fairly tough mark but won’t be far away if reappearance run did him good.
