4.05pm Newmarket tips for Friday’s Class 3 race. A relatively small field, but a tidy mile handicap nonetheless with £7.762 on offer to the winner. Read on for our free betting tips, predictions and analysis.
IN SUMMARY: BATTLE OF MARATHON has sunk down the handicap a long way since his pomp, though he is still only five. Has shown more form of late, he ran well for a long way in the Cambridgeshire and can take advantage of this lower grade. Red Tea was in front of the selection there but is now three pounds worse off. She will enjoy the quick conditions, with Swiss Storm the potential improver. He has had a light campaign and could be the biggest danger
1 BRILLIANT VANGUARD – Enjoying a smart campaign, showing up well the last twice despite the winning run coming to a halt. “He’ll be a better horse again next year” is the stable opinion so this mark should be within his grasp, though he wouldn’t want the ground too quick.
2 BATTLE OF MARATHON – Still relatively lightly raced, he has slipped down the handicap this season. Shown signs of late that he is approaching a winnable mark, including when showing up well in the Cambridgeshire. Looks a spot of value.
3 RED TEA – A length and a half in front of Battle Of Marathon in the Cambridgeshire, she is three pounds worse off now. Three of her four wins have come on good to firm so she will appreciate the underfoot conditions, runner-up from this mark in July.
4 SINFONIETTA – Just a single win in twenty-two career starts, he finished last his only start on good to firm, withdrawn both times the ground has come up fast since. Ground to make up on his Cambridgeshire running, has a lot to find here.
5 STARLIGHT ROMANCE – Not seen since the end of August, she won fresh first time up this season. Got home by a nose on much softer ground for her only other win, she is still six pounds above that. Needs another jolt of improvement.
6 ALEJANDRO – Has his perfect conditions, just a pound higher than when scoring in May. His last two wins have come at a lower level so should find a few others capable of progressing past him at this level.
7 SWISS STORM – Impressive when making every yard of the running at Newbury as a juvenile. Excuses both starts since, pitched into the Dante and then on heavy ground. 86 looks very fair on that Newbury win, solid chance if able to tap back into that form, unexposed enough to do so.
8 VIA SERENDIPITY – Sole win came at this track on quick ground as a juvenile. Shaped well in a pair of Polytrack starts in the summer, he is an intriguing one from 85 returned to the same conditions as his victory.
9 SALT WHISTLE BAY – Tapped into a rude run of health this season, his three successes all coming with cut in the ground. Stole it off the front last time, could try similar tactics in this field though needs more, especially on this surface.
