IN SUMMARY: Just over a year ago MINOTAUR won a French Listed race by four lengths and he’s since joined the Jonjo O’Neill yard where he shaped like a potentially useful hurdler in the summer. He returns to the flat for the first time since joining this yard and a mark of 103 looks very lenient, so he should be tough to beat with conditions to suit as he has the speed for this trip. There are plenty of dangers in behind, with both Soldier In Action and Blakeney Point bringing very respectable form into the contest.
SOLDIER IN ACTION – Won three starts ago at Goodwood in fine style before two modest efforts in the Ebor and at Chester in Listed company. This is easier and he handles softer ground, though perhaps he would prefer further in such a small field. Has to be respected, but should find at least a couple too good in the finish.
SUMBAL – Fourth in a Group 3 at Newbury in October 2016, returning this season with a third at Doncaster in a Conditions race. That was a quality race and he makes his handicap debut today off a mark of 106. He goes on soft ground and has to be respected as he has fitness on his side now.
MINOTAUR – Useful hurdler who won his last two runs over timber for Jonjo O’Neill, but he won a 1m 4f Listed race when on the flat in France. He looks like a smart prospect in the hurdling sphere, but a mark of 103 severely underestimates him on the level and he looks tough to beat if repeating his French flat form of only one year ago.
BLAKENEY POINT – Course and distance winner who won a handicap on his latest start at Newbury ahead of subsequent Group 3 winner Danehill Kodiac. He’s three pounds higher, but may get a soft lead here and has to be respected with conditions to suit.
MY REWARD – Having a great season in 1m 5f to 2m handicaps for Tim Easterby ahead of Soldier In Action in a Listed race at Chester when last seen. He meets that rival on much better terms here, however this distance doesn’t look ideal and he should be tapped for speed when it matters.
DANCE THE DREAM – Absent for four months before returning with a far from disgraced fifth at Newbury last month, although it does give her plenty to do with Blakeney Point. She has fitness on her side now and is lightly raced, so has an each way chance for an in-form yard.
NIGHT OF GLORY – Only four runs so far for Andrew Balding, finishing a good second to a highly promising sort at Haydock when last seen, well clear of the third. He’s still unexposed and only one pound higher here, so looks sure to play a crucial role.
