Some speedy 2yo fillies line up in the Group 3 feature on Thursday’s Salisbury card. Read our horse-by-horse race preview for our experts’ betting tips.
IN SUMMARY: Perfect Angel won a good-quality maiden at Glorious Goodwood last time and is expected to make her mark in Pattern company at some stage, while Pellucid was very impressive when scoring on her debut at Thirsk and is also afforded plenty of respect. However, there is surely some each-way value in DAINTY DANDY, given her Group 3 third at Ascot in July sets the form standard here and she had a valid excuse when well beaten over 5f on her latest outing. She is expected to be suited by this stiff track and probably won’t be far away.
Bahamadam – Caused 33-1 surprise on debut at Windsor (6f, good) a month ago and probably wasn’t suited by the muddling gallop when last of five in a 7f AW conditions race recently; remains unexposed but needs to improve to succeed at this level.
Dainty Dandy – Displayed improvement when very creditable third in the Group 3 Princess Margaret Stakes at Ascot (6f, good to firm) in July; won’t be far away if matching that performance here and reportedly lost her action when flopping over 5f last time.
Elliptical – Overcame slow start to make winning debut at Newmarket (6f, good to firm) last month; the bare form is probably not anything to get too excited about but she shaped as though the stiff track here will suit and is open to any amount of progress.
Grizzel – Began career with two wins in May, the second in the Hilary Needler Trophy at Beverley (5f, good to firm), but hasn’t made any progress since then; will be fine over today’s trip but was a shade disappointing at Chester last time and others look likely to improve past her.
Madam Dancealot – Readily won a Newbury maiden (6f, good to firm) in July and probably ran to a similar level when close second in a Ripon conditions race (6f, good) last month but is beginning to look exposed after five starts and her form is probably below the required standard here.
Mystic Dawn – Out of a half-sister to 6f/7f Group 3 winner Byron and came from off the pace to gain convincing success in run-of-the-mill Brighton maiden (6f, good) on recent debut; takes on much stronger opposition here but it’s hard to gauge the limit of her ability.
Pellucid – Bred to be better suited by longer trips but she made smooth headway before quickening clear to score in good style on debut at Thirsk (6f, good to firm); holds a Cheveley Park entry and needs to be taken very seriously.
Perfect Angel – Delivered upon debut promise when winning 18-runner maiden at Glorious Goodwood (6f, good) in July; that form was boosted when the clear second was placed in a 7f Group 3 event there at the weekend and she’s a big player here.
Simmie – 2-6 after justifying favouritism in Wolverhampton novice race (5f, AW) last month; should be fine over today’s trip but has seemingly had her limitations exposed in Group/Listed company and others have more pressing claims.
