IN SUMMARY: WINGS OF SMOKE was a little disappointing in the spring but was runner-up in a better contest than this only a year ago from twelve pounds higher. Conditions are right up his street, he looks a little overpriced. Wade Harper has not lived up to his early potential but finds himself a long way below his hurdling mark. If he ever puts it together over the bigger obstacles, he has the potential to run up a sequence. Turban was far better than these in his youth, he won from the front at Plumpton last season from this mark, if he gets a soft time of things on the front end once more, he can round out the frame.
TURBAN – Formerly smart, he halted a long slide down the weights at Plumpton last season in a three runner contest. Returns to that mark here, conditions suit so needs each way respect if he can get the run of the race once more.
WINGS OF SMOKE – Just a year removed from a smart runner-up effort at Musselburgh from twelve pounds higher, he is unquestionably well treated on his return from a break. Trip and ground suit perfectly, he looks a little overpriced in this field.
ENJOY RESPONSIBLY – More than a year since he was last in action, joining a yard who can get them ready first time. Underfoot conditions are in his favour from a tempting mark, but this trip has stretched him in the past. Even on a sharp track his stamina is the overriding concern.
WADE HARPER – In danger of becoming disappointing, he was a smart animal over hurdles, losing his way over the bigger obstacles. His best form has come at this sort of trip on decent ground. Big shout if finally able to tap into his old form.
PRETTYLITTLETHING – Mixed hurdles and fences to good effect at this time last year as she climbed the weights. Has looked handicapped to the hilt so far this season so cheekpieces first time will need to generate improvement.
LITTLE WINDMILL – Finds himself back on his last winning mark after some below par performances. Quick ground on a sharp track has suited well in the past, has a tongue strap back on for the first time since July 2016 here. Interesting if that helps him return to form.
D’NAILOR – Sole career win came over this course and distance last March on similar ground. Shown little either side which raises doubts about the validity of that success but is often well supported so connections clearly believe he has the ability to show better.
THAT’S THE DEAL – Three wins in 2017 despite being thirteen years of age, with five of his nine wins under rules coming here. Has his highest mark since June 2014 to deal with now though which does make him hard to support despite conditions in his favour.
THE SOCIETY MAN – Just a single win in seventy-seven career races, that coming in December 2012. More than two and a half stone out the weights, he needs the other eight not to finish to win this.
