IN SUMMARY: There was a lot to like about the come back of PETITE POWER three weeks ago and if coming on far that as expected he should be there pitching at the finish. Miami Present is in excellent nick at the moment so another big run looks on the cards.
CAULFIELDS VENTURE – Has put in a sequence of poor performances as of late but has tumbled down the weights as a result. He won off two pounds higher in November 2016 and so he clearly has potential of this sort of mark but needs a revival.
KELVINGROVE – Has had just four starts over fences and has yet to really get the hang of things. He is twelve pounds lower in this sphere so remains well handicapped if he can get his jumping together but there are risks attached.
MIAMI PRESENT – Has won three of his last four starts over fences and those have come by a combined twenty-six lengths. Is in excellent form and despite a further rise in the handicap he should go well again.
PETITE POWER – Fergal O’Brien has been in great form lately and this one wasn’t disgraced when fourth back off a break last time. He can be expected to come on for that run and if doing so he shouldn’t be far away at all in this company.
BY THE BOARDWALK – Kim Bailey is another trainer in excellent form and this has a similar profile to that of Petite Power. Was placed twice at the back end of last season and might have a race in him off this mark if improving for his seasonal reappearance.
CERNUNNOS – Became slightly frustrating last season when fancied for a few decent handicaps but got back on track when winning two starts ago. Couldn’t cope with a seven pound rise last time when pulled up and that leaves him with something to prove again.
ROYAL PLAZA – Has been placed four times in five attempts this season and has a very solid profile. Fergus Gregory is a capable seven pound claimer and a repeat of his second two starts ago at Huntingdon would see him go close.
AUNTY ANN – Followed a sequence of placed efforts with a win last time at Worcester twenty-two days ago. Has progressed nicely since joining Charlie Longsdon in March and another big run would come as no shock.
AFTER HOURS – Finished last season with five seconds in six races and is consistent of this type of mark. Reappeared with a moderate fifth when sent off favourite and if taking a step forward with that run under his belt he should go well.
THE HAPPY CHAPPY – Has won two of his last three starts and was a respectable second in between his two victories. Has been raised another five pounds for his last win but seemed to have a bit in hand that day and should run his race again.
ABBEYGREY – Won by thirteen lengths a couple of starts ago but has struggled since then. Was pulled up when last seen and it may be that he is slightly under the grip of the handicapper at this point in time.
