IN SUMMARY: The most interesting candidate is handicap debutant ADAMS PARK for Roger Varian, who plugged on well at Sandown on his final Novice/Maiden start. He’ll improve massively for this extra furlong and, with a mark of 81 very lenient on handicap debut, he can take victory for his top connections. Baileys Excelerate is also making his handicap debut and has to be respected, with conditions also favouring Powerful Society who won’t be far away.
JAZEEL – Has improved marginally since his debut for Mick Channon, finishing second on his latest start at Kempton in handicap company. He’s now five pounds higher which looks harsh and needs to improve for the extra furlong. Each way claims, but he looks vulnerable off this mark up in class.
BAILEYS EXCELERATE – Won with plenty in hand when making most two starts ago and he was far from disgraced under a penalty on his latest start. He ran well to finish second and this trip looks ideal, with a mark of 85 not harsh on handicap debut. Interesting candidate and has to be respected.
ADAMS PARK – Shaped well in three runs for Roger Varian, plugging on over the mile when last seen at Sandown. He should suit this extra furlong and his handicap mark isn’t harsh, with softer ground fine for him. He’s the one to beat for top connections.
VENTURA DRAGON – Two wins from seven starts for Richard Fahey, however he’s been hammered on his two previous starts, the latest at the mile distance. An extra furlong isn’t sure to suit and, with his stamina a big question mark, he’s best watched.
SHIP OF THE FEN – Lots of stamina in his pedigree, but he does need improvement from three similar maiden runs for Martyn Meade. He should improve for the step up in trip on handicap debut and goes with cut in the ground, so is very interesting as connections are in brilliant form.
POWERFUL SOCIETY – A real stamina test on heavy ground suited her when powering through the mud to win at Carlisle last month, raised four pounds as a result. She should improve further for the extra two furlongs and she won’t be far away.
KNIGHT IN ARMOUR – Sent off favourite at Ripon when last seen, but he was brushed aside by the front two, beaten ten lengths after a soft lead. He has plenty to prove off one pound lower upped in distance and he’s best watched.
