IN SUMMARY: MILAN OF CRYSTAL will have this race run to suit with a number of front runners in opposition. She has been in great form of late, getting up close home meaning the handicapper is struggling to catch up with her. Tanarpino has a great record fresh so could be the biggest danger back over hurdles which will suit him. War Creation will be better this season but would have made more appeal if the Nicky Henderson form were in a little more form, while Cave Top will go well if allowed a soft time of things on the front end.

TANARPINO – Two pounds above his last winning mark, he ran well over fences last season without getting his head in front. Isn’t the biggest so perhaps the switch back to hurdles will suit him. Softer ground would be ideal, his record fresh is solid however so has a squeak.

GRAND TURINA – Lightly raced, she was an impressive winner at Warwick in March. Found Grade 2 company a step too far on her final run of the campaign but begins here off a workable mark, well worth consideration.

CAVE TOP – Showed only limited ability last season, but another summer on his back saw a much improved display from the front at Exeter last week. The step up in trip will suit, with no surprise connections want to strike while the iron is hot, solid chance under a penalty.

MAN LOOK – Did well over the summer on quick ground, this mark is within his reach on decent ground. If Cave Top is ridden the same way that he was at Exeter, then this horse will have competition for the lead which would lessen his chance.

ARGENT KNIGHT – Not seen since July 2016, it’s February 2015 since he ran over hurdles. Trip and surface are both suitable for him and despite the long absence he has won fresh on more than one occasion so shouldn’t be totally disregarded.

WAR CREATION – Didn’t have to dig too deep to land a Ludlow contest in April, she may have found her last outing coming a little quick on the back of that. Should have more to offer this season but the Nicky Henderson yard aren’t quite firing on all cylinders at present.

VERANO – Nearly two years since last seen under rules, the handicapper has dropped him seven pounds for that time away. Soft ground would suit him better so best watched on this occasion to see what ability remains after moderate point to point form last season.

NABHAN – Given a mark of 135 on the back of his sole hurdle win, he has slipped to 113 now in the space of just eighteen months. Connections remove the cheekpieces he has worn for the majority of this season, well treated if that sparks him back to life.

MARLAIS – Finished last on both handicap hurdle starts so far, including at Carlisle last week. Better ground could suit but looks to need a significant hand from the handicapper before he is going to be a threat.

MILAN OF CRYSTAL – Career best form of late notching back to back wins, she has run on late in the piece making it hard for the handicapper to catch up with her. This should be run to suit with a number of front runners, the ground suits so no reason she won’t be bang there.
