IN SUMMARY: Considering he was rated 73 on the flat, MAGNUM should be better than a mark of 96 over hurdles for Susan Corbett and has ran better than the bare results have suggested on numerous occasions over hurdles. Despite making mistakes and pulling far too hard at Market Rasen when last seen, he was still boxing on over the second last and the headgear is now removed. That should settle him down and with James Corbett claiming five pounds, he’s certain to out-run is huge odds.
VERCINGETORIX – Has been in form of late for Iain Jardine, not beaten far when second at Carlisle last month off one pound higher. He goes on better ground and isn’t on a harsh mark, so should be far away with Ross Chapman claiming five pounds.
STRONG ECONOMY – Has run his best races over further, clearly needing the extra distance when only third at Perth on his latest start at this trip. He is likely to be outpaced remaining at this distance and others are preferred.
BUYER BEWARE – One win form ten hurdling starts and he returns to this sphere after some poor runs on the flat for Patrick Homles. He has placed off higher in the past but the percentage call is to avoid.
CALIFORNIA SOUL – Signed off from the Denis Hogan yard with some respectable efforts over timber and makes his debut for Rose Dobbin today on his favoured good ground. More is needed off today’s mark but he couldn’t be discounted for each way terms.
KING’S WHARF – Patchy profile for the Gavin Cromwell team and he signed off from that yard with a disappointing run at Uttoxeter in September. A drop back in trip should suit but he has plenty to prove on balance.
DESERT ISLAND DUSK – Three wins from twenty-three runs over hurdles and he was very disappointing at Kelso eleven days ago. He ran well of today’s mark two starts ago but a combination of his modest strike-rate and poor latest run dampens his claims.
SUPERIOR COMMAND – Course and distance winner for Lucinda Russell who returned this season with a good fourth over course and distance, rallying gamely after being outpaced. He is entitled to come on for that run and off only a pound higher, he won’t be far away.
SINDARBAN – Capable on his day for Keith Dalgleish but he was disappointing when well sent off 11/4 at Bangor on his latest start, weakening between the final two flights. He’s two pounds lower here but he couldn’t be recommended for a yard hitting a flat spot.
JONNY DELTA – Won here over the 2m 3f distance back in December off today’s mark, running well on the flat since May for the most part. He arrives here fit and he goes on better ground, so has to be considered under Danny Cook.
SUGGESTION – Hasn’t bee seen since winning a very modest Handicap at Wetherby in March, pushed out for a comfortable success. More is needed here and he’s entitled to need this run, so others are preferred.
WOT A SHOT – Has been difficult to follow and isn’t the most consistent, though he was near his best when second at Huntingdon in October. He’s on the same mark here and has similar conditions, so there is no reason why he couldn’t run well for a place.
MAGNUM – Rated 73 on the flat for Brian Meehan so is clearly capable of better in this sphere off a mark of 96, going off way too fast in the headgear on his latest start at Market Rasen. He has James Corbett again claiming five pounds and shouldn’t be far away with the headgear now removed.
