IN SUMMARY: TWO SMOKIN BARRELS was a rapid improver over fences last season with sufficient cut in the ground. She has dropped below her last winning mark, shaping well at Carlisle on her return before getting tired over further. Chef D’Oeuvre was a long way behind her on that occasion but he is well treated on his novice form. Nobuttaboy ran well on his chasing debut last time, he has a solid each way chance if he can build on that.

1 SOLSTICE STAR – Smart hurdler, he showed a little more over the bigger obstacles last time. Yet to suggest that he is a true three mile type, he has plenty to prove therefore for all that he has won here over shorter on similar ground over hurdles.

2 FULL IRISH – Glimpses of form over hurdles last season, emerging with credit in a hot EBF Final at Sandown in March. Again showed promise on his chasing debut, that coming over two miles. Stays two and a half fine though three is a question mark.

3 SAINT JOHN HENRY – Inconsistent type, he dug deep to win at Chepstow before running no sort of race last time. Won’t find it easy to get to the front with Solstice Star in opposition and tough to trust completely in any case.

4 CHEF D’OEUVRE – Form from last season when nine lengths behind American and five from Mystical Knight suggest a mark of 127 is very lenient. He has been disappointing in the main since, including when a long way behind Two Smokin Barrels last time.

5 TWO SMOKIN BARRELS – Strong first season over fences, she progressed rapidly given soft ground. Shaped well on her return, just looking in need of the run close home. Two pounds below her last winning mark with conditions to suit, a big player.

6 CRYSTAL LAD – Shaped better than the final positions would suggest in a pair of starts over fences. A close fourth in the EBF Final ahead of Full Irish, he is capable of far more than he has shown though might be better going right handed.

7 NOBUTTABOY – Smart form over a sharp three miles over hurdles, he showed up well for a long way on his chasing debut. Perhaps early in the season is the time to catch him, sound each way chance if building on his latest effort.

8 ALLCHILLEDOUT – The deeper the ground the better for him, both wins coming on heavy. Stays well so the pair of front runners should allow the race to be run to suit. Needs to step up considerably on his return however.
