2.55pm Kelso Tips & Betting Preview 13/03/2016

IN SUMMARY: Many Clouds is a class act and will be hard to beat here if anywhere near his best. However, it’s widely known he’s using this race as a preparation for next month’s Grand National and he could be worth opposing with GOLD FUTURES (14/1 Each Way), who produced quite an impressive turn of foot to win a handicap over 3m2f here in October and might still be improving. Sausalito Sunrise has bagged a couple of good prizes this season and can also make his presence felt.

1 Many Clouds – Produced excellent performance to win 2015 Grand National under a big weight and is favourite to defend his crown back at Aintree next month; unlikely to be given an unduly hard race here but gave decent account when second to Smad Place at Cheltenham (3m1f, heavy) on latest outing in January and has a good chance at the weights.

2 Cloudy Too – Took advantage of some help from the handicapper when eased-down winner of Grade 2 handicap at Haydock (3m, heavy) in January and has a part to play if in similar form here; however, his best days are almost certainly behind him now and he was a bit disappointing over 3m4f back at Haydock last month.

3 Sausalito Sunrise – Not far off the best of last season’s staying novice chasers and has landed valuable handicaps at Cheltenham (3m3f, good to soft) and Ascot (3m, soft) during current campaign; might be slightly flattered by current BHA mark (163) but will be suited by today’s ground and can run another big race.

4 Unioniste – Made disappointing start to current season but was placed in valuable Sandown handicap (3m, good to soft) last month before landing small-field event here (3m2f, heavy) a few days later; neither of those performances prove he’s back in peak form, but he shouldn’t be far away.

5 Carrigdhoun – Has bumped into well-handicapped subsequent winners when runner-up on last couple of outings, the more recent over C&D (heavy) last month, but is getting quite long in the tooth now and faces a tough assignment in this company.

6 Gold Futures – Made smooth headway before displaying good turn of foot to assert in handicap here (3m2f, good) in October and is now 3-7 over fences; has a bit to find on the figures with a couple of these but is effective on slow ground and can make the necessary progress.

7 Maggio – Won this race in 2014 but this year’s renewal looks quite a bit stronger and this 11yo has no obvious scope to improve; a minor role probably the best he can hope for this time.

8 Rathlin – Smart in his prime and ended lengthy losing run in Ayr handicap (2m, heavy) yesterday; ought to be fine over today’s trip and is evidently in good heart but will have much more on his plate if turning up here.

myracing Forecast Prices: 11/8 Many Clouds, 7/2 Sausalito Sunrise, 6/1 Unioniste, 7/1 Gold Futures, 10/1 Cloudy Too, 12/1 Maggio, 16/1 Rathlin, 33/1 Carrigdhoun
