2.40pm Goodwood tips for Wednesday’s Class 2 race. With several top yards represented, this conditions stakes race should showcase some interesting types for the future. Read on for our free betting tips, predictions and analysis.
IN SUMMARY: This race is at the mercy of Billesdon Brook who is clear on form following her group performances this season. However, in the event that she fails to turn up, GIVING GLANCES could provide some each-way value. She’s a full sister to some nice sorts and should improve for her racecourse debut.
1 BILLESDON BROOK – Wasn’t disgraced in the Group 2 May Hill Stakes at Doncaster when fifth of eight behind some nice sorts. She shoulders top weight in this, but her Group 3 victory over course and distance in August would be enough to see her win this. She knows her job and is the one to beat on paper.
2 MAGGIE JONKS – Makes her racecourse debut for the Andrew Balding yard who have an impressive 23% strike rate at present. She’s a daughter of Sixties Icon and a half-sister to some fair sorts, although this is a tough ask on debut. Best watched.
3 TIGERFILLY – Cost just 1,500gns as a foal and she’s a daughter of an average mare. The yard don’t send out many two-year-old runners, let alone winners, and John Ryan’s filly is best watched on debut as the first runner for her dam.
4 PASTAMAKESUFASTER – Well beaten in three novice stakes races to date, including an 11 length defeat at Lingfield in a Class 5 event last month. This would require a huge step up on form and that looks unlikely in this given that she’s had a few chances now.
5 SKY BANDIT – Unraced daughter of Dick Turpin out of a moderate mare who won four times from 26 career starts. Gary Moore can ready a two-year-old and she’s not entirely discounted on racecourse debut, however on breeding she’ll want further than seven furlongs.
6 ZAHRAA – Sold for 20,000gns as a foal and she’s out of an unraced mare. There is plenty of speed in her pedigree by Finjaan out of an Exceed And Excel mare so she’s of definite interest in this with Tom Marquand booked to ride. Market support would be significant.
7 GIVING GLANCES – This once raced filly is a full sister to two decent sorts, both trained by Alan King. On breeding she will want much further than this in time and the step back in trip does look negative given the nature of her run on debut. However, she should turn out to be a nice sort and is worth consideration.
8 SAVAANAH – Unlikely to be one of the yard’s best runners, but Roger Varian’s filly showed promise in a Class 4 novice stakes race at Leicester last month. She stayed on well having had a torrid journey and she will have learnt plenty for the experience. She’s sure to come on again for that and should go well today.
