IN SUMMARY: Nowhere near as simple as it looks at first glance and it may well be worth taking a chance on LEXINGTON SKY (Each Way) here with every chance that the cheekpieces on for the first time could bring the necessary improvement. He would have a favourite’s chance on his better form and in a race that won’t take too much winning he is very clearly the value call.
SANS SOUCI BAY – Looks to have an outstanding chance at the weights here if the official ratings are taken at face value and arrives here in decent enough form after hacking up in a course and distance seller when trained by Richard Hannon. He can give lengths away at the start so Hollie Doyle will need to be on her guard as the stalls open but if he breaks on level terms he ought to go well again here.
VIBES – Bolted up by an over the top eight lengths at Lingfield over this seven furlongs in early August only to be hit with an extra eleven pounds which he then carried to a well-beaten fifth here over the mile. Dropped in class to this claimer he could do a lot better here with the seven-furlong trip an added bonus, and not easily dismissed in this field.
LEXINGTON SKY – First-time cheekpieces for the Roger Fell trained son of Iffraaj who is another dropped in class this afternoon after finishing a seven and a quarter length sixth at Musselburgh. Potentially well in here if he can be persuaded to repeat his very best efforts from last season and the headgear may well help him focus sufficiently to do just that.
OAKLEY PRIDE – Finished close to eleven lengths adrift of Sans Souci Bay over this course and distance when last seen in action earlier in the month and meets that rival on thirteen pounds better terms here so in theory he ought to finish an awful lot closer. Only win in sixteen starts was a seller and although a place is possible a win seems likely to be beyond him.
TIFI – Although a winner at Chepstow in August when beating Dream Farr in a seller by a nose he hasn’t been able to challenge in his last two starts, beaten sixteen and then seventeen lengths on the Kempton all-weather. The return to the turf may see a better effort and with George Wood claiming three pounds off his back, he could run a lot better than his odds imply.
TAWFEER – Ran a decent enough race on his second run for Phil McEntee after leaving the James Unett stable when runner-up to Pick A Little in a Brighton handicap recently with a length and three-quarters back to the third. That was a career-best effort and may or may not be repeated or improved upon here, and on official ratings he does look up against it either way.
TOPMEUP – Scored at Ffos Las in September and ran on in to fifth over the Lingfield mile on the polytrack last time out but may well find this seven furlongs on the short side and will need a very fast early pace so the excellent Matt Cosham can produce her late if she wants to get to the front where it matters. No guarantee that she will get that pace but every chance if the race unravels to suit her racing style on race day.
MAJESTIC GIRL – Still a maiden after seventeen starts on the flat (and one over hurdles), and very hard to make a serious case for. Lowest rated horse in the race off just 39 and as a lot to find based on her five and a half-length eighth of nine in a selling handicap at Brighton last time out on the flat.
