IN SUMMARY: This is a typically competitive event for the grade and track and the vote goes to THIRD TIME LUCKY. A mark of 100 is 3lbs above his last winning mark but this is slightly easier than many of his assignments this year and he can come out on top. Bronze Angel is the main danger if he can recover some of his form from 2015.
PRIMERO – Makes his first start in the UK and his first for David O’Meara today having been bought from France. He placed in a Listed event earlier in the year and has a couple of fair wins to his name across last winter. The market will guide.
THIRD TIME LUCKY – Solid handicapper who recorded a victory in a similar event to this earlier in the year over an extended mile. A mark of 100 is workable albeit 3lbs higher than his last winning mark. Has the ability to take this today.
KYLLACHY GALA – Hasn’t shown anywhere near the same level of form as he did on his UK debut at Lingfield. He’s dropped 4lbs in the weights which presents a fresh low in the handicap but others look better treated in this for a yard out of form.
MYTHICAL MADNESS – C&D winner off a 4lb lower mark but he’s won off one pound lower as well and remains fairly handicapped. The switch to the All-Weather is a positive move and he ranks as a danger in this field from stall 2.
PACTOLUS – Beaten a head last time out at Chelmsford in a decent handicap and he’s only been raised a pound for that effort. He’s effectively better off here with Aaron Jones’ claim although he’s gone a while without victory now. Opposed here.
BRONZE ANGEL – Not quite the force of old having raced only a handful of times in 2016 and 2017. He showed himself to be falling to a useful mark when only beaten a length off this mark last time out and he will be dangerous if building on that here.
FORCEFUL APPEAL – Completed a double earlier in the year having taken advantage of a significantly lower turf mark following an All-Weather success. He’s 3lbs above that last All-Weather win and he was well-beaten last time out off just one pound higher. Best watched.
SANDS CHORUS – 9lbs above his last winning mark which came in a 6-runner race at Ripon earlier in the season. He finished second in the Cambridgeshire which was an almighty effort although he’s struggled since. Best watched today off a career high mark.
BATTLE OF MARATHON – One win from 23 starts to his name and he was never involved in a Listed event at Kempton last time out. This is a drop in grade but he never quite seems to put his all in and has to be opposed again here off a mark of 92.
MOUNT TAHAN -10lbs above his last winning mark and he’s shown very little over the past few months. He was beaten 8 1/2 lengths off a 2lb higher mark last time out and he’s likely to struggle again.
RAINBOW REBEL – Beaten a length off this mark at Newcastle just under a week ago and he’s entitled to go close again off the same mark. The drop in trip shouldn’t be an issue and he’s going the right way at present. Respected albeit from stall 9.
SENIORITY – Lightly-raced sort who was beaten 1 1/4 lengths off this mark at Kempton last time out. He’s dropped slightly in trip today and should go well with more progression to come. He may not offer the greatest of value though in this competitive event.
ROLL ON RORY – Raised 7lbs for a 2 length victory in a Class 4 Newmarket handicap last time out. He took advantage of a falling mark that day and he’s switched to the All-Weather today for only his second attempt on the surface. This is much tougher and he’s opposed on that basis.
