£1,862.61 Donated To The Injured Jockeys Fund

Cheltenham Preview Bath

Here at myracing.com we have always championed the great work done by The Injured Jockeys Fund, a charity dedicated to the after care of the injured men and women who risk their health every day to entertain us in the sport that we love. Their purpose is to provide appropriate help, medical, financial and otherwise, to current and retired jockeys who are injured, unable to ride or in simply need.

Some time ago now we set up a Just Giving page which has far exceeded our expectations thanks to the kindness and generosity of from many people in the racing world and followers over the years. After setting an initial target of £2,000 we currently stand at £6,785.01 thanks to our Cheltenham Preview evening earlier in the year and our weekly Nigel Twiston-Davies charity bets.

In March we hosted our Cheltenham Festival Preview Evening at Bath Racecourse. After a successful night we gave each person on the panel £50 to pick a charity bet, with any winnings being donated to the Injured Jockeys Fund. Gold cup winning jockey Andrew Thornton correctly selected Presenting Percy to win the RSA Chase at 5/2 which returned £175. The evening also included a raffle and with top prizes such as free Gold Cup day tickets and a stable visit to the Nigel Twiston-Davies yard (who also donated our £100 food costs which we put on for all winners of the visit). Attendees of the evening kindly generated another £210 from the raffle which totalled an incredible £485 before we added to it to make an even £500! Thank you so much to everybody involved in raising such a fantastic amount.

Our weekly charity bets from our association with Nigel Twiston-Davies have been a popular feature with followers and also the IJF! We wagered £50 per week on Nigel’s best chance of the weekend and made a donation of £1,831.25 in October last year. After crunching the numbers again in May we made another donation of £1,362.21 to one of the most important charities in the racing world and were only to pleased to help.

We really cannot stress the importance of this fantastic cause. If you’d like to make a donation to the Injured Jockeys Fund then please visit our Just Giving page and give whatever you can.
