IN SUMMARY: Blue Kascade may go well but is no value at the price or the weights and PRESENTED (8/1 Each Way) looks far better value dropped back to a more realistic trip, and off a weight he can easily win from if anywhere near to his peak.
THEDRINKYMEISTER – He showed dramatic improvement for a first-time visor to win over fences at Weth4tby over this trip in February and followed that with a respectable fourth to Swincombe Scorchio at Chepstow in March. Not seen since and no guarantee that the headgear will continue to have a positive effect in the long term, and returns from over seven months off.
ROCK OF LEON – Hard to be too keen on having unseated at Exeter and Newbury at the end of last year before pulling up at Leicester in a selling hurdle in January and again on his return in a decent Sedgefield handicap on his first run for Philip Kirby. Decent at his best but hard to make a case for when in this sort of form and has a bit to find even though he has won off this rating.
BLUE KASCADE – Pulled up three times in a row from March to May but returned at Musselburgh last week when backed off the boards to win at odds of 11/8 by eight lengths over closer to this trip when making all. Shoulders a seven-pound penalty for that win but every chance if he is in the same sort of form this afternoon.
ACDC – Thrown in at the deep end a little here after just the one start over fences but that was a decent second at Kelso in a Novice Chase when beaten eleven lengths at the line. Runs off the same rating now but lacks the experience of some of these and that could yet be his undoing in this field for trainer Chris Grant who has failed to register a winner in the last two weeks.
BUFFALO BALLET – Well beaten on his only attempts at this sort of trip but ran on in to second over two and a half miles and is worth trying over three miles again. With Blue Kascade likely to tow them along he may find this tests his stamina too much, and others have better chances over this trip today.
NAKADAM – Admirably consistent but that has seen his handicap rating remain on the high side lately though he put in his best race in some time here over shorter last time out when running on in to second which will have put him spot on for today. He is far happier over this trip or further which makes his comeback all the better, and off just a pound higher and with improvement assured, he has a decent each-way chance at these weights.
PRESENTED – Lisa Harrison has her horses running well without winning lately but this ten-year-old gelding may well change all that. Last time out he ran a solid enough third to Harry The Viking when outstayed over further but back at three miles and off a rating far lower than he has won from in the past, he looks to have a serious chance of win number seven here.
FINAGHY AYR – Won on his chasing debut at Carlisle in February and went close to following up at the same track next time out but he has failed to complete in just the two races since with a fall at Hexham in March before pulling up at Kelso in April when reported to have broken a blood vessel. Not seen since and needs to prove his well-being again before support.
ALFRED OATS – Not likely to be getting any better at the age of thirteen and has to carry twelve pounds more than his allotted handicap weight before jockey Jamie Hamilton’s three-pound claim. Second in his last two starts in December and January and may well improve for his first race since.
