IN SUMMARY: Presenting Mahler will be popular for her local trainer and she should be thereabouts. That being said she won’t get things her own way and she has most to fear from GETOUTWHENYOUCAN and Winter Magic, both of whom bring useful hurdling form to the table. The latter was a good winner at Tipperary when last seen in May and will take some catching if ready to go after seven months off, but Augustine Leahy’s charge should be cheery ripe for this after running well after a lay-off last time, and can come home in front dropped to this trip. Black Zero can chase them home.
Canaly – Has been disappointing since scoring at Wexford (Heavy) over today’s trip in March and needs to get over woeful effort when nineteenth of 20 at Galway (Good) on last start in July. Should appreciate the drop back in trip here and good conditional jockey on board. Best watched in this.
Presenting Mahler – Won at Sligo (Heavy) in September and has been running well enough since. Encouraging run in fourth behind Emcon (who runs in the 1.00pm Thurles) in second last time out and she should go well again today on the forecast ground for her local handler. Solid place claims.
Winter Magic – Ran a career-best for Jimmy Mangan when a length winner of 0-116 handicap chase at Tipperary (Heavy) in May over 2m1f. Off the track for seven months and has won on testing ground up to 3m1f, he can make his presence felt on a course that should suit, if ready to go after his lay-off. Blinkers from that win back on today. Interesting.
Perfect Woman – Landed a four-timer last Autumn up to 2m4f on mainly soft ground but has found it difficult to win since. Needs to bounce back from last place finish at Fairyhouse last time out.
Attalco – Has some good form in France with six wins up to this trip. Pulled up on first start on these shores at Clonmel on first start for the yard ten days ago behind Smadynium and difficult to see him showing true colours in this.
Getoutwhenyoucan – Won at Wexford (Heavy) in March from Eddie O’Grady’s useful gelding Prickly who has already won a decent novice chase this term. Only fourth behind a good one from the Jim Dreaper stable on his last start he should strip fitter here and could take some beating off a good mark and dropped back in trip. Big player.
Boher Call – Won at Naas (Heavy) over 2m in January and but has struggled in chases at this level since including a ninth of 13 at Naas on last start after eight months. Hard to fancy up in trip but better showing expected here.
Ontopoftheworld – Lightly-raced sort who has been running well in bumpers and hurdles without winning. Disappointing sixth of 14 on last start seventeen days ago and needs to bounce back from that. On an attractive mark to do so.
Black Zero – Has won here before and scored at Gowran (Heavy) in March over 2m4f by a length from the prolific Vicangelome. Needs a put a few lacklustre efforts behind him but should run well here with conditions to suit. Solid place claims.
Off The Charts – Long losing streak stretches back fourteen runs to 2014 and has struggled up to 3m since. Back on a decent mark for this and market vibes would be positive with connections enjoying a good time of things but on recent form looks held with a few for win purposes.
Courtncatcher – Hasn’t won since 2014 when scoring back-to-back wins in hurdles at Cork and Killarney on better ground. Doubt he will appreciate the conditions and has been largely on the go so far this season with just one good run at Punches won (Good) over 2m6f in October. Hasn’t won in fourteen runs over fences and up against it here.
Rightback Atya – Lightly-raced for his age with just one win over hurdles when a four length winner of a minor event at Sligo (Heavy) in August. Makes handicap debut today and easy to look elsewhere.
The Conker Club – Hasn’t won since landing a decent handicap chase at Limerick (Good/Soft) in May last year and well below form on last start at Clonmel (Good/Soft) last month. Needs a career-best to land this.
