7.50pm Kempton Tips & Betting Preview 08/09/2017

Just the five runners and with £9338 for the winner and prize money of £349.50 for finishing stone cold last, so hats off to those who stood their ground. With three previous winners in the small field we are still in for a good contest and our race preview and selection follow ahead of the 7.50pm at Kempton this evening.

IN SUMMARY: Not the most inspiring choice at the odds but POETIC CHARM looks to be the likeliest winner by far and ought to have little difficulty here is she handles the polytrack on her first attempt. Santorini Sun may be better than it looked at Goodwood from a poor draw and could well be her biggest danger.

1 JOUSI – One win from her three races so far when Hugo Palmer’s filly was successful at Ascot in July, beating Give And Take a length but she has run once since at Newmarket when last of nine in the Sweet Solera Stakes, beaten seven and a half lengths with Poetic Charm five lengths ahead of her. She did pull too hard to have any chance that day and it interesting that her trainer is happy to let her compete here but second ought to be the very best connections can realistically hope for.

2 POETIC CHARM – The clear and sadly obvious form choice for Godolphin and trainer Charlie Appleby after her fifth in the Sweet Solera at Newmarket which is the best effort on offer here. She was sent off the 11/4 favourite that day after winning on her debut at the same track and seems to be held in high regard by her powerful yard, in which case she really ought to get back to winning ways here with James Doyle in the saddle for a stable in good form with a 32% strike rate in the last two weeks.

3 SANTORINI SUN – Two races so far for the daughter of Born To Sea who beat Time For Wine on her Sandown debut over five furlongs but finished a well-beaten eighth of ten at Goodwood in the Group Three Prestige Stakes when held up and failing to quicken when asked to put in her effort. This is a drop in class and she ought to be challenging on this far better ground with the draw far less of an issue and could be the one to hassle the favourite.

4 CLUB TROPICANA – Once raced filly who finished sixth of sixteen on her Yarmouth debut looking as if the race would do her the world of good. Sent off at 16/1 that day she ran better than expected and can only improve and she is certainly one to keep an eye on for trainer Richard Spencer and jockey Dane O’Neill.

5 MOGGY – Richard Hughes trains the daughter of Kittens Joy who ran promisingly enough on her debut when third at Lingfield over six furlongs, but she failed to build on that when beaten sixteen lengths in to fourteenth at Newbury when stepped up to seven furlongs. She weakened rapidly that day and is not guaranteed to get home here either, and others have to have better chances on paper at least.
