IN SUMMARY: Most of these have been running in Pattern/conditions races and it’s quick tricky to assess which ones might turn out to be well handicapped. TURBINE (6/1) was a beaten odds-on favourite in a small-field event at Dundalk when last in action in February and duly failed to earn the fast-track qualification for AW Championship day that was up for grabs there. However, it’s interesting that Mark Johnston had Lingfield in Good Friday in mind for him and today’s riding arrangements suggest he’s the pick of the stable’s three runners. Comicas ran well on both his starts in Dubai earlier in the year and is feared most but Tabarrak also has plenty of potential to improve if he handles the fast ground.

1 Adventurous – Held his own in Group company as a 2yo but is yet to add to his 6f Newbury maiden win and was disappointing when only fourth of six in the Free Handicap at Newmarket last month, particularly as he was fit from a couple of AW runs beforehand; has a point to prove.

2 Twin Sails – Placed in two valuable sales races in September/October (6.5f/6f) and also gave very good account when sixth to Air Force Blue over 7f in the Dewhurst when last in action; evidently very talented, but the legacy from those exploits is a stiff mark for today’s seasonal/handicap debut.

3 Comicas – Won his maiden at Doncaster (7f, good to firm) last summer and bettered that form when following-up in conditions race at Meydan (7f, good) in first-time cheekpieces in February; beaten favourite when second in Listed event there the following month but still very much of interest here.

4 Tabarrak – Found a once-raced rival just too strong when beaten favourite in Newmarket conditions race (7f, good to soft) on last month’s seasonal debut but that still goes down as a good effort; yet to race on ground any quicker but can pose a threat if suited by the conditions on today’s handicap debut.

5 Whitman – Latest of three 6f 2yo wins was gained in a Listed event but he was very disappointing when last of ten in a Newmarket handicap over that trip on last month’s seasonal debut; pedigree offers significant hope he’ll be suited by 7f, but it’s hard to know what to expect from him today.

6 Madrinho – Seemingly had limitations exposed in Group company when upped to 7f for final two 2yo starts but had shown significant ability beforehand, including when winning a 6f course maiden; has sights lowered today and no surprise if he gets his career back on track.

7 Atlantic Sun – Only just failed to make winning debut over C&D in September, then cosily justified short-priced favouritism in a small-field event at Ffos Las a few days later; signed off with creditable second in Newmarket conditions race (7f, good to soft) in October and has plenty of potential to progress this season.

8 Turbine – Readily won Wolverhampton maiden (7f, AW) on debut in November; had to settle for second when 4/7 favourite for small-field conditions race at Dundalk (7f, AW) in February but jockey bookings suggest he’s the pick of Mark Johnston’s trio; interesting to see how he fares on turf/handicap debut.
