6.55pm Kempton Tips & Betting Preview 06/09/2017

A field of eleven go to post for the fourth race of the evening at Kempton on Wednesday. See our betting tips and the full race preview below.

IN SUMMARY: A very weak maiden can go the way of Henry Candy’s ORTIZ who showed enough on debut to believe that she can improve straight past this field on her second start. Candy’s tend to improve for their racing and the way she stayed on at Windsor on debut suggests that she has races in her, with connections in excellent form at present. Her biggest danger is likely to be Iconic Knight who possesses perhaps the best form in the race.

2 ICONIC KNGIHT – Progressing nicely for Ed Walker, posting a career best on his penultimate start when a close third at Windsor in July in a tougher race than his. He was understandably outclassed in a Class 2 Nursery at Glorious Goodwood on his latest start and back into an ordinary looking Novice race he looks to have leading claims as long as he takes to the synthetic surface. Has to be respected.

3 JOEGOGO – Ran to a good level in the context of this race in his first three starts for David Evans, finishing a close fourth on his latest start at Salisbury. He certainly isn’t improving and was poor on that latest start, but the softer ground can be used as an excuse and this is his easiest test yet by quite some way. Silvestre De Sousa takes over the ride so connections clearly mean business and he commands a huge amount of respect.

4 LANDUE – Has shown very little in two maiden runs for Marcus Tregoning, finishing ninth on both occasions and failing to beat many rivals. He looks almost certain to be a longer-term handicap project at the mile distance and beyond, so he’s best watched here as he’ll get his handicap rating after this.

5 RAGSTONE SAND – Son of Footstepsinthesand who is half-brother to winners Fast Wind and Samael, both two-year-old winners. He makes his debut in a weak looking race, yet his pedigree suggests that he will more of a middle distance handicap project in time. He’s best watched on debut for Murty McGrath unless the market suggests otherwise.

6 SOFT SAND – Bought for £3,500 as a yearling and this son of Piccolo certainly isn’t short of speed in his pedigree. That said, Peter Crate isn’t known for his first time out two-year-old winners and, unless there is market support for this one, he could only be given each way claims under Tom Queally.

7 TIPI – Already gelded son of Sleeping Indian who was sent off 100/1 on debut for Charlie Wallis and was pulled up within the first two furlongs after finding himself already a long way adrift. That was only six days ago and he’s impossible to fancy on the back of that.

8 DISAPPROVAL – Well beaten on both her starts for Daniel Kubler, sent off at 33/1 and 25/1 respectively. Her best race was on debut where she showed only a hint of promise at today’s trip, with a drop to five furlongs on her latest start completely backfiring. She is more than likely a low grade handicap project and is, again, best watched as others have achieved far more.

9 ORTIZ – £11,000 purchase as a yearling and this daughter of Havana Gold showed promise on debut to finish fifth at Windsor, getting the hang of things late on. Henry Candy’s two-year-olds tend to improve markedly for their first run and given that this is such a modest race, it would be no surprise to see her improve past these under Harry Bentley with connections in such great form.

10 PAMMI – Well beaten on both her runs for Anthony Carson, only improving very slightly when seventh of eight at Newmarket on her latest start three weeks ago. She needs a huge amount of improvement if she’s to be winning this under Ryan Tate and with others achieving far more with only one start under their belts. Hard to see her winning this.

11 SHAMROCK EMMA – Daughter of Mizzen Mast for the John Best yard who can ready them on debut every so often. She is a second foal and her dam was a winner at the five furlong trip in France, so she’s bred to have some speed on debut. She’s an each way contender if forward enough, with the betting a crucial help with this filly.
