6.30pm Newton Abbot Tips & Betting Preview 21/06/2016

IN SUMMARY: It’s easy to make the case for Fear Glic, who is turned out under a penalty after gaining a wide-margin success at Stratford a week ago, but it could be worth chancing  WADSWICK COURT (9/1 Each Way). The 8yo quickly became disappointing after his promising chase debut for Neil Mulholland in October but comes here fresh after a five-month break and is nicely handicapped if reviltalised by the switch to Peter Bowen’s stable. Gowanauthat completed a hat-trick when winning from the front at Fontwell three weeks ago and might still be improving but today’s race is stronger and a bigger threat to the selection could come from Bincombe, who ran much better than his 23l defeat might suggest when fourth after a break at Newbury in April and is 3lb lower now.

1 Wadswick Court – Quickly lost his way after promising second on chasing debut at Fontwell (2m3f, good to soft) for Neil Mulholland in October but makes debut for Peter Bowen after five-month break and has been dropped to a handy mark if the change of scenery has done him good.

2 Willem – Runner-up three times off today’s mark over hurdles last season and again when switched to fences at Fakenham (2m, good) last month; claims on that evidence but dropped out tamely when last of four on latest outing and 2m5f on good to soft ground could stretch his stamina.

3 Easily Pleased – Never dangerous when midfield in quite valuable contest at Uttoxeter (2m4f, good) last month but this race is easier and he ran well from the front when third at Exeter (2m3f, good to firm) two starts ago; not ruled out, but he’s another with slight stamina doubts over this trip.

4 Ladfromhighworth – Has made steady progress since switched to racing under rules in spring 2014, winning four times along the way, but been absent since finishing second off today’s career-high mark in November and will need to return in peak form to have any chance here.

5 Fear Glic – Course hurdle winner who wasn’t an instant success over fences after returning from a long absence this year but came good in this sphere at the fourth attempt when scoring by 16l at Stratford (2m6f, good to soft) a week ago; needs to be taken very seriously under 7lb penalty here.

6 Bincombe – Finished tired when about 23l fourth after break at Newbury (2m6f, good to soft) in April but ran well for a long way that day and can be rated better than the bare form; goes on any ground and subsequent 3lb drop helpful; blinkers removed; no surprise if he goes well.

7 Ace Fighter Pilot – Pulled up (albeit on heavy ground) when returning from very long absence in January and hasn’t been seen again since; won a C&D novice chase in summer 2013 and does handle some ease underfoot but it’s hard to gauge how much ability remains.

8 Comeonginger – Ran out of his skin when short-head second to Lord Landen at Cheltenham (2m5f, soft) in December and is now 6lb lower; not quite in same form this spring but been placed three consecutive times, most recently behind Fear Glic a week ago, and can give another decent account.

9 Gowanauthat – Front-runner who has struck form and completed a hat-trick this spring, the latest win gained at Fontwell (2m5f, good); 7lb higher in a stronger race today but will be fine on the slower ground and further progress possible.

10 Lord Landen – Just got the better of Comeonginger to score at Cheltenham (2m5f, soft) in December and comes here after running well in defeat at Worcester (2m4f, good to soft) last month; enters calculations here but doesn’t always look robust in the closing stages, and that trait reduces his appeal.
