6.15pm Newcastle tips for Wednesday’s race. Read on for our free betting tips, predictions and analysis.

IN SUMMARY: A race that may not take too much winning, and top weight SALTY SUGAR showed enough improvement last time out to suggest she is more than capable of winning a race of this standard. A tongue tie is added to assist her breathing on this surface and as things stand she does look difficult to oppose.

1 SALTY SUGAR – A first-time tongue tie is added by trainer Paul Cole as the daughter of Oasis Dream looks to continue her recent improvement that includes a good fourth to Hic Bibi when keeping on well over a furlong shorter at Kempton and on that evidence, he should run a big race again this evening. She clearly has possibilities to go on form that on only her third start since leaving the John Gosden yard and tops any form shortlist.

2 FABELLA BERE – Karl Burke’s filly looked all set for a good season with a debut third at Carlisle but failed to build on that since with two seventh places at Haydock (when last) and Redcar when beaten ten lengths in a claimer over this trip. She makes her all-weather debut today and needs to find plenty of improvement to get involved in the finish at these weights even with the stable in great form of late.

3 BLUE HAVANA – A daughter of Havana Gold out of a Pivotal mare, John Quinn’s filly is another who ran well first time out when fifth of sixteen at Leicester when staying on at one pace over six furlongs but she hasn’t threatened the judge since and was beaten over thirteen lengths at Thirsk last time out. She makes her handicap debut after the obligatory three runs and it will be interesting to see if she does any better now with the added furlong a bonus.

4 CALL DAWN – Progeny of up and coming sire Helmet do particularly well on the tapeta surface and it will be interesting to see if there is any market support for Mick Easterby’s filly. Her best run yet was a fourth over five furlongs in August with a poor twenty-two lengths ninth of twelve at Haydock last time out but on breeding she should do better upped in trip this evening.

5 LORD CAPRIO – Another with a first-time tongue tie on his first run since being gelded, but they will need to bring some serious improvement between them after his twelve length eleventh of thirteen here over a furlong shorter when last seen in early September. A six and a half-length sixth at Catterick over this trip on his debut was his closest finish yet and he clearly needs to find a lot more now regardless.

6 MR CARBONATOR – Jimmy Quinn rides for Phillip Kirby as the Bated Breath gelding looks to get off the mark at the ninth attempt. He has placed three times in his last five starts since leaving Richard Fahey which suggest he has as much or more ability than some of these and if he can repeat his half-length second at Beverley off two pounds lower, then he has to be in with every chance.

7 AVENGING RED – Adam West has his small Epsom string in good form with one winner from just the three recent runners for a 33% strike rate and they will be hoping that this son of Red Jazz can defy his sprint breeding and do better stepped up to this trip. His only known relatives are Digi and La Ferruja who failed to win a race between them and after a six-length sixth over five furlongs at Kempton in first-time blinkers, it is hard to imagine him winning over this distance tonight.

8 ISTANBUL PASHA – Improved dramatically lately with a length third and a two and three-quarter length second over six furlongs, both at Redcar, and with the winner of her latest start going on to finish a good second to Captain Jameson in a better race than this at Doncaster. First time on the tapeta and if she handles it then she clearly has a solid chance in this field.

9 LADY SANDY – Ran better than the finishing position of sixth implies at Redcar last time out in a twenty-runner handicap from a poor draw in the fifteen stall and although he has two and a half lengths to find with Istanbul Pasha, he is eight pounds better off here and thus really ought to turn the tables. Better drawn as well today and has to be seriously considered, each way at least.

10 ROCK ON BERTIE – Eleven runs without a success so far but a second and two thirds to his name at Nottingham and twice at Lingfield, but beaten fourteen lengths and five and a half lengths on his only two runs on this surface. Well backed last time when sent off the 7/2 favourite and it will be interesting to see if his supporters are on a recovery mission today.

11 NAVARRA PRINCESS – Owned and trained by the very shrewd Don Cantillon in Newmarket, the daughter of Intense Focus hasn’t exactly set the World alight so far in four starts with a six length sixth at Beverley over five furlongs in August her best effort yet. On breeding she should do a lot better over this trip and a market watch looks a very sensible move with this one.

12 OUT LAST – Cheekpieces are added for the first time by trainer Keith Dalgleish to try and focus the attention of this filly who has shown very little in her three starts to date in maidens. Her seventh of eight at Carlisle last time out failed to impress and she needs to find plenty if she wants to get competitive, even at these weights.

13 LADY JAYNE – Represent a yard in good enough form with two winners and a long list of places in the last fortnight though even that may not be enough to see the daughter of Henrythenavigator home in front. She has only had three runs and this will be her first run on the tapeta or any all-weather surface, but even the Ian Williams magic touch can surely see no more than a place at best.

14 PARTRY FLYER – First-time blinkers for Oliver Greenall’s gelding who has shown precious little in six starts so far and was beaten thirteen lengths over the Kempton mile last time out when weakening over a furlong from home. May do better for the headgear but has to carry a pound more than his allotted weight and would be a shock winner here.
