6.10pm Kempton Tips & Betting Preview 16/08/2017

Thirteen go to post in this Class 5 nursery handicap raced over 7f. See our betting tips and the full race preview below.

IN SUMMARY: This is a wide open handicap and it could pay to take a chance on INUK. She faced a tough task last time out in a competitive handicap and she’s been dropped 4lbs for the run and the switch to the All Weather could see her home in front in this weaker event. Catch The Pigeon shouldn’t be far away off what may be a generous handicap mark coming out of stall 7 for a yard in form.

1 SUPER FLORENCE – Handicap debut today off what looks to be a fair mark based on her racecourse debut at Brighton. She finished second of five, beaten two lengths that day which was a fair performance. However, she’s failed to run anywhere near to that in two starts since, having been beaten 21 and 13 lengths respectively. Tricky to know what to expect today on the back of that mixed form. Stall 11 also makes life tricky.

2 GLOBAL EXCEED – Went close in a Class 6 Lingfield handicap last time out in first-time blinkers. He’s stepped up in trip today which looks positive and could bring more out of him on what looks to be a workable mark of 60. Fran Berry retains the ride and the yard are going okay at present with a 12% strike rate in the past fortnight. Respected in this, although he is slightly more exposed than many of his rivals.

3 SHOYD – Has improved with each run to date in much tougher contests than this. She was only beaten 5 1/2 lengths in a Class 4 Newbury Novice Stakes race and she should be seen to much better effect off a lowly mark of 59 in a first-time handicap. Sean Levey takes over in the saddle and she should go well, although stall 12 is a poor draw over seven furlongs.

4 LYFORD – Has shown glimpses of promise in three runs to date but they’ve all come in weak Novice Stakes races and he has plenty to find with a few of these off a mark of 58. Mitch Godwin negates 5lbs of that which will certainly help and the yard have been going better of late with a 14% strike rate in the past fortnight. However, others look to have stronger claims on form.

5 CATCH THE PIGEON – Wasn’t beaten all that far by a few useful sorts over six furlongs at Kempton last month and she has run with credit since. She finished sixth of 14 in a Class 4 Windsor event on her second start and she may have been let in lightly off a mark of 57. Callum Shepherd claims 3lbs off her back and stall 7 is fine. Respected today for a yard going well at present.

6 BULLSEYE BULLET – Three modest efforts in Novice Stakes company lately and he has been given a small break since the latest of those runs. He was beaten 6 1/2 lengths by some average sorts at Wolverhampton and he needs to do more in this off what could be a tough enough mark on handicap debut. He’s started 100/1, 150/1 and 125/1 in three starts to date and others are preferred.

7 MOUNTAIN PEAK – Steps up in trip to 7f for the first time today following some poor efforts lately. His last two runs have come in Class 4 events so this does represent a drop in grade and connections have yet to geld him which may be a positive sign. He may soon run out of chances though if he doesn’t show improvement today. The yard have failed to send out a winner from their last 20 runners.

8 INUK – Showed some form on racecourse debut at Lingfield back in May over six furlongs, but she didn’t progress on the turf. She was beaten 17 lengths off a mark of 60 at Leicester last time out and she’s been dropped 4lbs following that effort. Shane Kelly gets back in the saddle today and a much better showing could be on the cards. Market support would make her of strong interest.

9 ISTANBUL PASHA – Has shown a limited amount of ability in three runs to date and he’s stepped right back up in trip in this. He was beaten 11 lengths at Windsor last time out over the minimum trip and he looked to lack enough pace to get involved. He’ll be better suited by this trip, although stall 13 is a nightmare draw and he has it all to do off a mark of 54 on nursery handicap debut.

10 MY GUY – Stan Moore’s runner is tried in first-time cheekpieces today following some moderate efforts in three starts. He was given a small break between his second and third start but that did little good and saw him beaten 13 1/2 lengths in a Class 6 event at Wolverhampton. Much more is needed today, although stall 6 is fine and a mark of 50 looks reasonable. The yard have sent out just one winner from 20 runners in the past fortnight.

11 ROSES IN JUNE – Hollie Doyle claims a useful 3lbs on Stan Moore’s second runner in this. This Society Rock filly has shown some ability in a Claimer and a Seller and, whilst they don’t provide much in the way of reliable form, she has at least been going well. She should be suited by the switch to the Kempton All Weather and the step up to seven furlongs could be a big positive. Interesting.

12 HEAVENLY PULSE – Ann Duffield has only sent eight runners to Kempton and it’s interesting that her runner is paired with Silvestre De Sousa today. He has shown little in a couple of Sellers recently and, whilst they have been an improvement on previous form, it’s still been a fair way below what’s required here. He races off a mark of 46 which should be fair but the market will guide best on his chances.

13 AFTERTHISONE – Begins his handicapping career off a basement mark of 45 and he looks up against it today. He was beaten a long way on all three starts over the minimum trip and the step up to seven furlongs will have to spark improvement to see him get into contention today. Others make far more appeal.
