5.05pm Lingfield Tips & Betting Preview 18/10/2017

5.05pm Lingfield tips for Wednesday’s Class 5 race. A competitive looking sprint over 6f, with a little more than £4,200 on offer to the winner. Read on for our free betting tips, predictions and analysis.

IN SUMMARY: If he’s able to get his own way up top this tricky little contest could go to RED ALERT. William Muir’s three-year-old was too keen to do himself justice last time out at Kempton, running freely early on with his jockey unable to restrain him. In the experienced hand of Fran Berry today he may well settle better and will prove tough to peg back if allowed to dominate.

1 BORN TO FINISH – All four wins have come on artificial surfaces, including a pair over this course and distance. Back to form the last twice after a quiet spell on the turf, but has the widest draw to overcome here.

2 HAMIDANS GIRL – Both wins have come at the minimum trip, but she ran close to that form over a stiff 6f at Carlisle, so this extra furlong is no concern. Yet to run on Polytrack, with her previous sand form not as smart as she has shown on turf.

3 RED ALERT – Best of his form has come when able to dominate, so the draw in one looks perfect for him. Cheekpieces quickly removed after not working last time, has placed from this mark on the sand in the past so has a decent chance.

6 CORONATION COTTAGE – As with so many from her stable, she has done her winning at Bath this season. She performed poorly the only time she has run on an artificial surface (though it was her first run of the season) and needs to prove her stamina.

7 BAHAMIAN HEIGHTS – June 2015 was the last time he got his head in front, regressing this season. Now 11lbs below that win, but his turf form is generally of a stronger level than on the sand.

8 DESERT GREY – Front runner has been failing to see out his races this season over further. Is yet to try a trip this short, but has run respectably over 7f here. Tough to be confident about, but well treated on his maiden form if the drop to six suits.

9 LANGLEY VALE – A preview winner at Bath in September, he boasts a stronger strike rate on this surface. Two wins and two places from six starts over this course and distance, his mark is a long way below those runs. Still well in if he can rediscover that level of form.

10 RED STRIPES – Not the easiest to win with, he finally capitalised on a sliding mark last time. No good thing to back that up with another solid run for all that he is well treated on his old form.

Non-Runners:

4 QATARI RIYALS – Both wins have come on the Tapeta at Wolverhampton. She is very lightly raced so has every chance of building on her recent decision over the re-opposing Logi. Looks the one to beat in this field.

5 LOGI – Only a short head behind Qatari Riyals last time out on his first run for Richard Guest. He is 1lb better off for that defeat, an effort that can be marked up as he was trapped wide. More exposed than that rival, but still merits serious consideration.
