4.05pm Redcar Tips & Betting Preview 27/07/2016

IN SUMMARY: Planetaria is improving with every run and is a dual C&D winner so will be tough to beat if handed a soft lead. That isn’t guaranteed though and perhaps the value can be found in WEEKEND OFFENDER. Kevin Ryan’s yard is going all guns blazing at the moment and although conceding weight all around, he drops down in grade after placing at Musselburgh. Furiant isn’t passed over lightly for Mark Johnston.

1 WEEKEND OFFENDER – Won a maiden easily at Musselburgh on penultimate start (7f, Good) and then wasn’t disgraced when being lifted up 2 grades into Class 3 company when finishing a close up 3rd at the same track (8f, Good to Firm). Still unexposed over todays trip and any sort of progress will be dangerous, does conceded weight all around, however.

2 PLANETARIA – A dual C&D winner who won on his penultimate start at Hamilton (8.5f, Good to Soft) and then was collared very late at Beverley latest (8.5f, Good to Firm). Improving all the time and that last run was very good, he was terribly unlucky not to win. Is a leading contender for this if given a soft lead.

3 MIDNIGHT MACCHIATO – Placed on his first 2 runs of this year, most recently when 2nd at Newmarket (8f, Good to Firm). Disappointing latest when upped to Class 3 company at Newmarket (8f, Good to Firm) and will need a career best to take this race, can’t be discounted though.

4 BRONTE FLYER – Won on debut at Carlisle (8f, Good to Firm) but hasn’t gone on since then. Finished a very poor 5th out of 6 at Carlisle latest (8f, Good to Soft), and connections now reach for the headgear. Still early days though as she’s only run three times so could well improve.

5 FURIANT – Won on his first attempt at 1m at Ripon (8f, Good) but couldn’t continue the upward curve when down the field at Sandown a week ago (8f, Good to Firm). Obviously represents a powerful yard and is unexposed at this trip so could resume progress, but this race is harder than the one he was in latest so needs a big step up.

6 POPSIES JOY – Got up to beat Planetaria at Beverley in May (7.5f, Good to Firm) and has run well since then, latest when not disgraced at the same track in 4th (7.5f, Good to Soft). Last two runs at 1m weren’t great but they were in the mud so can be discounted, interesting if managing to see out this slightly longer trip.

7 PICTURE PAINTER – Finished 3rd over C&D in April (8f, Heavy). Very different conditions today and only other attempt in Good to Firm conditions resulted in a last place finish. Surely capable of better but might struggle to land a blow in this as struggled in the last 3 races.
