3.55pm Wolverhampton Tips & Betting Preview 27/12/2017

IN SUMMARY: An intriguing contest but one that should go the way of the Charlie Fellowes trained CAROLINAE who will be much happier back on the All Weather today and with the yard in terrific form of late the horse can strike.

1 SOUL SILVER – First time on the tapeta for David Simcock’s daughter of Dragon Pulse who has won three of her eleven starts at Yarmouth, Kempton, and Newbury, the first two as a juvenile. Excuses at Newmarket last time out when rearing at the start and more capable than she looked that day, but off since early October and others look to have stronger claims at present.

2 CAROLINAE – Charlie Fellowes has his horses going well with two winners from seven recent runners for a 29% success rate and as a course and distance winner she has to enter calculations. Her last win was off this rating at Lingfield in similar class in February and although she has lost five races since, four were on turf and she ought to be a lot happier back on the all-weather this afternoon.

3 STELLAR SURPRISE – A winner without a penalty after passing the post in front at Lingfield last month before being disqualified and placed second after bumping the runner-up, but the handicapper has put her up two pounds regardless. Only a three-year-old with the eleven starts she may well have more to offer in time, but this may be a step too far in class, with a place the best connections can realistically hope for.

4 DAISY BERE – Last seen at Newcastle when sixth to Paddyplex in a Class Four event, and without a win in three starts this season. Her last win was here off just a pound lower back in December last year so this is the time of year she comes good, but her recent form has left a little to be desired and she will need to step up to the mark to have any chance despite the decent enough form of the Karl Burke horses.

5 DOMITILLA – One of only three runners here to score last time out when a first-time hood saw Marco Botti’s filly beat Temeraire by two and a quarter lengths at Lingfield over the seven furlongs. Upped to a mile this afternoon, she was running on strongly that day and could do even better for an added furlong, and although upped seven pounds for that win she seems to be improving fast and won’t be far away at the finish again today.

6 PURE SHORES – Returns to handicap company after winning her maiden here over half a furlong further on only her second run for Ian Williams having left the care of Charlie Appleby in early December. Carries a six-pound penalty for that win which looks more than the handicapper is likely to administer, making her life that much more difficult now at these weights.

7 STAR QUALITY – An intriguing option after leaving Pascal Bary for the David Loughnane stable and promptly winning her maiden here over a furlong shorter at the very rewarding odds of 40/1 less than two weeks ago. Steps in to handicap company for the first time off a rating of 74 and with Nicola Currie talking seven pounds off her back, she is hard to simply ignore.
