3.35pm York Tips & Betting Preview 11/06/2016

3.35pm York – 888Sport Charity Sprint (Handicap) Class Two – 6f

What a tough handicap this is at first glance but local trainer Tim Easterby has won two of the last three runnings and now relies on Still On Top (40/1) from his early entries which may tell a story in itself. James Sullivan rides the son of Royal Applause who clearly had something wrong at Haydock when 70 lengths last to Garcia but may be better judged on his earlier form headed by a good fourth to Thanksfortellingme in a Listed race at Pontefract. A repeat of that would certainly see her in the mix today but sadly we don’t know what was wrong last time out and cannot even suggest her for that reason.

We think Aclaim (9/1) could be an interesting option for trainer Martyn Meade with his lightly raced profile suggesting there is any amount of improvement to come. A son of Acclamation he won his only race at two before being put away for the season and returned to action with another victory at Newmarket off a mark of 87 before being stepped up to Group Three class at Naas when third of seven to Only Mine, beaten just over five lengths with Washington DC in second. If he returns to handicap class today off a new rating of 97, he could just be too classy for them, though why they don’t try a Listed race first is beyond our comprehension.

Show Stealer (14/1) is next on our little short list and rightly so after his win at Newmarket when held up out then back by Martin Dwyer before being bought with a perfectly timed run to win going away at the line. Put up seven pounds for that win, he was a 22/1 shot that day which suggests to us he was anything but wound up for his return, and he may well be able to improve enough to shrug off the ratings rise and it is interesting to see martin booked again as if this race was perhaps his suggestion as the next port of call?

To round things off we have Dancing Star (15/2) who runs here for Andrew Balding after winning two out of two so far this season at Salisbury and Goodwood. Starting off a mark of 75, he was put up to 80 next time out yet was even more impressive, and seems to be going from strength to strength, but another nine pounds today ought to stop him winning at least, though we do think he will run well and make it in to the first five home.
