3.30pm Newmarket Tips & Betting Preview 25/10/2017

3.30pm Newmarket tips for Wednesday’s race. One mile on good going awaits these fillies with eighteen pounds covering them from top to bottom according to the handicapper. Read on for our free betting tips, predictions and analysis.

IN SUMMARY: A highly competitive handicap over the mile but one that ought to go to CLEARLY who has room for plenty more improvement after so few races. Andrea Atzeni is an eye-catching jockey booking by John Gosden for the Godolphin filly and with her last run best ignored after she was hampered, she can move on to take this with Dynamic perhaps her biggest danger.

2 SOMETHINGTHRILLING – David Elsworth adds a first-time tongue tie to the daughter of Makfi after a very poor last of thirteen at Newmarket in the Listed Rosemary Stakes, running too badly to be true and beaten seventy-seven lengths at the line. She did win her maiden on the turf at Pontefract with her other two victories on the polytrack but has been out of form for some time now and she needs to find a lot more now off a rating of 90.

3 TAI HANG DRAGON – Richard Hannon and Ryan Moore are a potent combination regardless, making the Tamayuz filly and interesting contender. Stepped up in to Listed class after winning a little Class Five event at Lingfield, she ran her best race yet when a two-length fourth to Tisbutadream in the Coral Distaff at Sandown in July, and if she repeats that and not her nine-length tenth at Maisons-Lafitte last time out, then she has to be seen as a serious contender as long as the going remains good or faster.

4 HIDDEN STEPS – One of only two engaged here who won last time out after she scored by a length and a half at Windsor last week in a Class Four handicap off a handicap rating of 82. Trained by Andrew Balding and to be ridden by David Probert as he was last time out, she will have to carry a six-pound penalty this afternoon in this much better race which will take some doing, but she is only three and has just six races on the clock suggesting she has more to offer for a stable renowned for patience and slow maturing sorts.

5 SONG MAKER – Charlie Appleby’s daughter of Oasis Dream looks an each way punter’s dream after winning one of her seven starts (at Chester in a ten and a half furlong maiden), and hitting a top three spot in every other race she has contested so far. Her last two starts have been on the all-weather at Chelmsford with a length third and more recently a neck second, and although up three pounds for her last run won’t be far away again here back on the turf.

6 BINT DANDY – Lewis Edmunds takes a useful three pounds off the back of the six-year-old mare but she will still need to do better than she has so far this season with a win at Yarmouth in May seeing her upped to a rating of 87 and seven losing runs since. Last time out she finished a three-length fifth at Chelmsford and off three pounds lower now she could do better here.

7 AIMEZ LA VIE – The other winner last time out in this field for popular trainer Richard Fahey after she kept on well over seven furlongs at Musselburgh to score by a head in a Class Four event but she has been put up four pounds for that and this looks a better-quality race regardless and this looks a big risk on her first attempt at the mile in this better-quality field where her stamina may yet be found out.

8 LADY FREYJA – One of the more intriguing contenders here after she won her maiden by an easy seven lengths at Newmarket in a maiden on the July course in June after which she was thrown in at the deep end in the Listed Sandringham Handicap when weakening close home to be beaten twenty lengths at the line. Not seen since, her supporters have to decide whether it was the class or the added furlong that was her undoing that day or if she had an off day, and if she is back to her best she may yet sneak in to a place despite the slower ground.

9 AL NAFOORAH – Ed Dunlop trains and the in-form P J McDonald rides the daughter of Bated Breath who is looking for her fourth win of the season after victories at Wetherby, Nottingham, and Sandown. Last time out back at the Esher course she was a four-length sixth to UAE Queen after finding herself short of room under Adam Kirby, though to be fair she never looked as if she was going to win. She is game but runs off the same rating here and the handicapper may have her in his grasp at present.

10 CLEARLY – Andrea Atzeni rides for John Gosden and owners Godolphin here on this lightly raced filly who has only had the four careers starts including a win at Kempton on the all-weather in a mile maiden in early September. She finished ahead of Al Nafoorah at Sandown when third and should confirm that form today, and although beaten since when knocked sideways at Newmarket, she may well be a lot better than that in time and she looks a serious player here in first-time blinkers.

11 DYNAMIC – Lightly raced for the in-form William Haggas stable (24% winners in the last two weeks) with just the three starts, one as a juvenile when third and a comfortable maiden win at Newmarket before a two and a half-length fifth to UAE Queen at Sandown last time out. She was sent off favourite that day and was badly hampered and may well reverse the form with Clearly here on five pounds better terms.

12 ALEXANDRAKOLLONTAI – Sadly she has to run from two pounds out of the handicap here (has to carry more than her allotted weight thanks to the race conditions), and that can hardly help her already limited chances. She did run well last time in fifth at Newcastle when racing up with the pace before being swamped close home but this looks a far better race and she may well struggle.

13 ASSANALKA – Harry Dunlop’s three-year-old filly wasn’t disgraced last time out with a solid fourth at Kempton and could well have a lot more to offer after just the six career starts. Well behind some of these at Sandown in September and has a lot to find even at the revised weights.
