IN SUMMARY: Caspian Prince ran with credit in a couple of valuable Meydan handicaps earlier this year and, from a workable mark, could make a bold bid from the front if he handles today’s conditions. However, his case would be much stronger on a sounder surface and this can go to 2014 Abbaye winner MOVE IN TIME (3/1), who hasn’t quite been in peak form on his two outings this year but won a Group 3 event on very soft ground in September and ought to have a fitness edge over at least some of today’s rivals. It’s hard to argue that Humidor is well handicapped, but his heavy-ground success at Epsom last summer earns him a place on the shortlist.

1 Move In Time – Won the Abbaye at Longchamp in 2014 and also collected a Group 3 prize there (5f, very soft) in September; not quite in peak form in two Listed events this year (5f/6f) but ought to cope well with today’s conditions and needs to be taken very seriously back in a handicap.

2 Monsieur Joe – Landed a couple of valuable prizes last season, the first a handicap at York (5f, good) and the second a Tipperary Listed event (5f, soft); will find this easier than latest assignment in the Abbaye but is untested on heavy ground and needs to be fully revved up after 194-day absence.

3 Dutch Masterpiece – Came from off the pace and overcame some traffic problems to gain narrow success in Ascot Listed event (5f, good) in October but hasn’t been seen since a lesser effort on Polytrack shortly afterwards; goes on any ground but returns from absence on tough handicap mark.

4 Caspian Prince – Front-runner who reached the frame in two of the four valuable Meydan handicaps he contested in January/February; slightly lower in the weights here and could be dangerous if allowed an uncontested lead but, though he handles some underfoot ease, today’s ground is probably not ideal.

5 Humidor – Struggled to land a significant blow in the Abbaye when last seen in October and returns to action on highest handicap handicap mark since 2013, but his convincing success on heavy ground at Epsom two starts ago brings him into the equation.

6 Green Door – Third off today’s mark in this race year and responded very well to first-time visor when making all for 6l success in conditions race at Beverley (5f, good) in September; not in same form in Dubai in first few weeks of 2016 (four starts) and needs to prove he can handle slow ground.
