3.05pm Newbury Tips & Betting Preview 15/07/2016

Our race preview takes a look at a very competitive handicap on the afternoon card at Newbury. All 8 runners have some type of chance, but our betting tip uncovers a horse that has much more to offer for a trainer who does well with these sorts.

IN SUMMARY: Runscombe has only raced twice and definitely has more to come now back up at her seemingly favoured trip. However GIRLING will have much more to offer after a great 8th in the Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot and gets the nod under Frankie’s guidance. Purple Magic definitely has more to offer and can be a threat.
1 GIRLING – Broke her maiden over 1m4f at Bath back in May and then ran with credit in the Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot (16f, Good to Soft). That was by no means an easy race and after looking one paced towards the end on taxing ground, 1m5f is bound to suit her. Should take all the beating if stepping up on her effort there.
2 RUNSCOMBE – 3rd place at Leicester on her debut (12f, Good to Firm) and then struggled at an inadequate trip at Doncaster (10.5f, Good to Soft). That first effort shouldn’t be taken lightly as the form has worked out very well and the second effort can be dismissed as the trip was by no means suitable. Very big player if getting back to form.
3 ENGAGE – Will need more than what she has shown previously, the best effort when 4th at Chester latest (12.5f, Good). That was a decent effort as she had a very awkward head carriage and then edged left towards the finish. If those issues are sorted she can reach the frame, but seems stable second string as Moore is up on Runscombe.
4 GENUINE APPROVAL – Most experienced filly in the field, with two wins to her name, the latest last time out at Beverley (12f, Good). That effort shouldn’t be taken lightly as she has improved with every run and any sort of improvement would put her as a genuine danger to the selection, classed as vulnerable though with other fillies having more room to improve.
5 DAPHNE – Beat Talent To Amuse by a short head in a 1m4f maiden, and then tailed off in the Queen’s Vase latest at Royal Ascot (16f, Good to Soft). Seemed a genuine improver before that and can’t be discounted with confidence, with the longer trip a possible excuse. Has to be considered.
6 TALENT TO AMUSE – Seemed to be improving before a very poor effort when favourite latest at Newmarket (12f, Heavy). The ground can be used an excuse on that run but still needs to step up on previous efforts to feature here. If resuming progress she may well sneak into a place.
7 PURPLE MAGIC – Victorious in a 5 runner maiden latest by 5l at Catterick (1m6f, Soft) and could well have more to offer from that effort. Michael Bell’s yard is in top form and has a useful claim from Eddy Greatrex, will be dangerous to discount.
