IN SUMMARY: The beautifully-bred Emaraaty is likely to start as favourite in this based on his incredible pedigree and all eyes will be on John Gosden’s 2.6 million purchase. However, he is worth opposing at the prices with SAM GOLD who cost a fair 120,000GNS as a yearling and he’s a half-brother to the smart Dabyah. He should provide some value in this over a trip that will suit.

1 BEACHWALK – Showcasing colt who cost 85,000GNS as a 2yo, increasing in value from his yearling purchase price which is a positive sign. He hails from a top yard and connections so merits respect although his dam hasn’t exactly produced anything notable to date so there’s no reason to suspect he’s one of the yard’s best. He has no fancy entries at this stage.

2 BLACKLOOKS – The Ivan Furtado yard doesn’t have many 2yo runners or winners and their once-raced son of Society Rock could be up against it in this. He started 33/1 on racecourse debut and finished sixth of 7, beaten over 6 lengths by some modest sorts in what was a relatively decent novice stakes. There look to be better bred sorts in this against him though.

3 DARK SPEC – Twice-raced colt who took a big step forward last time out to finish 3/4 of a length behind Algam. He was ahead of Blacklooks that day and should easily confirm the form if he can progress again now tackling slightly better ground again. The yard were positive about his chances last time out so he’s clearly well-regarded and he should go well with some of the best form of those that have run in this.

4 DELSHEER – Cost a lofty 260,000 Euros as a yearling and he’s a half-brother to a nice enough staying sort for the William Haggas yard. He hails from a yard that can ready a 2yo and Josephine Gordon partners him first time out. He’s likely to want slightly further in time than this but conditions should be in his favour and he can run well having shown plenty of scope at the sales.

5 EMARAATY – Sold for a whopping 2,600,000GNS as a yearling and it would be an understatement to suggest he’s well-bred. He’s by Dubawi out of Zee Zee Top which makes him a half-brother to some very smart individuals including Izzi Top and Jazzi Top, both trained by John Gosden. He’s been handed a less than ideal draw in stall 15 but he commands plenty of respect on racecourse debut.

6 ENZEMBLE – Once-raced son of Zoffany who showed some promise at Newmarket on racecourse debut. He finished seventh of 12 that day, beaten 13 1/2 lengths having been slowly into stride and never quite with the pace. This does look a shade easier but he’s going to require big improvement from that run and the yard have failed to send out a winner from their last 10 runners.

7 HISTORY WRITER – Purchased for a relatively cheap 5,500GNS as a foal and he’s the first runner for his un-raced dam. This yard can send out a 2yo winner first time out so he’s worth a second look in the betting and Richard Kingscote is a positive booking so he would be unwise to rule out on debut, particularly with market support.

8 MASKED DEFENDER – Finished ninth of 10 at Goodwood back in May having never featured and he’s been off the track since (99 days). That has to be a concern and whilst on breeding he should turn out to be relatively useful, he looks up against it today and others make greater appeal in this.

9 NIGHT SPARK – Ralph Beckett purchased this son of Soldier Hollow for 43,000 Euros as a yearling and he’s the first foal of his dam. He looks as if he will need further than this in time and he could end up being a longer term project although this yard does know the time of day with their 2yo’s so he’s worth a market check.

10 RUM RUNNER – Showed a great deal of improvement from his first to second run when finishing fourth of 12 at Newbury just a fortnight ago. That was a decent effort and ranks as a good piece of form in the context of this race and he’s worth plenty of respect for a yard that can continue to progress their 2yo’s with every run. The yard have a 17% strike rate in the past fortnight.

11 SAM GOLD – 120,000GNS purchase as a yearling and he hails from a top yard that are very capable of sending out racecourse debutante winners. He’s a half-brother to the extremely smart Dabyah and whilst he may also end up wanting further in time, a line through his sire suggests 7 furlongs shouldn’t pose a problem. The yard are operating at a 12% strike rate at present.

12 TAUREAN DANCER – Twice-raced son of Intello and he needs to do more today to score in this company. He progressed from his first to second run and he hasn’t run in poor maiden races so he can’t be discounted entirely for a yard that have sent out 6 winners from their last 21 runners. Jamie Spencer is booked to ride which is a positive for this yard and market support would be significant.

13 TECHNOLOGICAL – Finished sixth of 10, beaten a long way on racecourse debut at Doncaster in early July. The form of those around him isn’t much to shout about and whilst he should come on for that run, he looks as if he will need far more time to be seen to best effect. The yard have been quiet of late and others make greater appeal.

14 WESTBROOK BERTIE – Went unsold for 7,500GNS as a foal and he’s a son of Sixties Icon who hasn’t produced many outstanding 2yo’s. He’s a full-brother to a couple of average types and he’s likely to need this run to learn about his job. He should start as one of the outsiders in this and it would be a small surprise to see him trouble the judge today.

15 BECKY SHARP – 20,000 Euro purchase as a yearling and she’s the first runner for her dam. She finished midfield on racecourse debut at Lingfield last time out and that came in a particularly weak maiden which inspires little confidence today. She should find this too much and others are preferred.

16 LADY JAYNE – Finished last of 10 at Haydock on racecourse debut, beaten 25 lengths and she was sent off 33/1 that day. She’s likely to start as the complete outsider in today’s field and with good reason for a yard that doesn’t have many 2yo runners or winners. She shouldn’t be up there in the finish today.
