2.45pm Brighton Tips & Betting Preview 28/06/2016

The second division of the opening Class 6 handicap at Brighton, our race preview predicts a potential upset with the favourite looking poor value at the head of the market. Our betting tips pick out David Dennis’s charge to bounce back but also notes two double figure Each Way prices which may well be worth backing.

IN SUMMARY: Kenstone (4/1) has plummeted in the handicap but ran far more respectably behind two horses rated in the 60s in a claimer at Wolverhampton last time out and is turned out quickly off a mark of just 47 here. Conditions should suit and while not reliable 4/1 looks a generous price. Heathfield Park and Frangarry could both put in good runs at big double figure prices while Minminwin was the subject of a big gamble last time out and is worth keeping an eye on in the market.

1 Tasaaboq – Has been generally running consistnetly on his last 6 starts with four places and a win, and only up 3lb for that run of form. Promising apprentice Josephine Gordon is booked yet again but looks quirky when he hits the front so difficult to back for win purposes.

2 Essaka – Overnight favourite following a bounce back to form when third last time out, is now rated 10lb lower than last September following a good run in similar conditions at this track. Turned out quickly off the same mark of 54 with a promising claimer but frustratingly inconsistent and short in the market.

3 Frangarry – First time blinkers will need to have a positive impact following two very poor runs, but handicapper has been lenient and he’s been dropped 7lb for those two defeats. Worrying visor made no difference last time out and untried on ground softer than Good to Firm.

4 Compton Prince – One of the more exposed in the races with 54 starts, rated 8lb lower on the turf than on the All Weather but just one win in 14 and that came back in 2013. Ran abysmally two weeks ago at this course and in seven course starts has just one place but finished well down the field the other 6 times.

5 Heathfield Park – 3 starts on the All Weather, including a big price 3rd at Lingfield behind two horses rated around 60. Should come on for break and this much easier than Kempton contest last time out. Potential to run into a big price place.

6 Curious Fox – Four starts all on the All Weather so far and while rarely beaten far at big prices has remained uncompetitive. Dropped 2lb for a 2 length defeat last time out but a cheap vendor purchase despite a successful dam and yet to show he’s better than a mark of 55.

7 Nelson’s Pride – Has steadily fallen down inthe handicap since an opening mark of August 2013 and remains a maiden after 30 starts. Not beaten as far as normal over Course & Distance off this mark last time out a week ago but still can’t be backed.

8 Interchoice Star – Still remains a turf maiden despite 15 starts but has 7 wins to his name on the All Weather plus seven runner up medals in 52 starts.Rated 9lb lower on the turf but hasn’t run copmpetitively in his last 3 starts and has yet to run well on Good to Soft ground.

9 Overstone Lass – The outsider of the field, has a best finishing position of 6th (beaten 14 lengths) despite 11 starts. Dropped back in trip and blinkers added but unbackable from out of the handicap.

10 Stylish Minerva – An opening mark of 62 proved beyond her despite a promising run on debut at Newbury and has been beaten large distances on all her five starts since on a variety of grounds. Dropped back in trip and first time blinkers added by Hannon but need to have a serious effect.

11 Kenstone – 15 race maiden who ran far better than he had been in a claimer at Wolves 8 days ago. Turned out quickly and off a basement mark of 47. A tricky one to catch right but very well handicapped compared to old firm and worth taking a chance on at a reasonable price.

12 Minminwin – Very well backed favourite on handicap debut despite being beaten serious distances on all three starts. Ran poorly yet again and price reflects the bookies’ worries about the last time out gamble but no value in backing at this price.
