2.20pm Goodwood Tips & Betting Preview 19/05/2016

IN SUMMARY: Emell and The Warrior could appear late on the scene if this race is run at a strong gallop but both will need luck to avoid traffic problems and it might be wise to opt for something with more tactical speed. The form of the C&D event won by RUSSIAN REALM (6/1) 19 days ago may not be entirely reliable, given the principals all finished in a heap, but there is no obvious reason to believe that Richard Hughes’ gelding was flattered by the way that race panned out and he still looks well handicapped after a 3lb rise. Enlace comes into this with very unappealing form figures but was a triple C&D winner last year and, for that reason, is also considered.

1 Emell – Now 5lb lower than when very respectable sixth in the Lincoln (1m, soft) on seasonal debut in April and also has form over this C&D but been below best on last couple of outings and has poor strike-rate (2-35) for a horse of his ability; will need a strong pace and some luck.

2 Sirious Prospect – Seemed to respond well to first-time cheekpieces when sixth in valuable C&D event last month and enters calculations on that evidence but hasn’t tasted victory since November 2014 and isn’t as good as he once was; others have more appealing profiles.

3 Fox Trotter – Yet to add to his 2yo maiden win in summer 2014; reached the frame off 4lb higher mark over C&D at Glorious Goodwood last year but was some way below that form on his two starts in Dubai in early 2016 and has some questions to answer after three-month break.

4 Red Avenger – Left Ed Dunlop after two disappointing runs last summer and been absent since finishing last of seven at Chelmsford (1m2f, AW) in October; suited by this track but will probably find 7f a bit sharp and a big leap of faith is required to support him at present.

5 Enlace – Ended last season in poor form and finished well down the field when returning to action at Newmarket on Saturday; needs to bounce back quickly but was a triple C&D winner in 2015, most recently off just a 1lb higher mark at Glorious Goodwood; can’t be ruled out.

6 The Warrior – Sold out of Aidan O’Brien stable after winning just once from his first nine starts but both runs for Amanda Perrett this year have been encouraging and he was only beaten about 3l when staying-on eighth of 26 in valuable Ascot handicap this month; reliant on a strong gallop here but could have a say.

7 Russian Realm – Consistent on the AW over the winter and returned to turf with narrow-margin success over C&D (good) last month; found gaps when he needed to on that occasion but today’s 3lb higher mark looks manageable and he’s one to take very seriously.

8 Scottish Glen – Geting quite long in the tooth now but was in the form of his life when completing a hat-trick last summer, that was initiated by a C&D success; placed off today’s career-high mark when returning to action at Lingfield (1m, AW) recently and shouldn’t be far away.

9 Czech It Out – Quite lightly raced for his age and was a C&D winner a year ago; beaten only about 2l when eighth of 15 behind Russian Realm on recent seasonal debut and would probably have preferred a stronger gallop that day; can get involved again.

10 Pastoral Player – Finished strongly from off the pace to score over C&D at Glorious Goodwood last summer but returns here after finishing last of eight on recent seasonal debut at Chelmsford (1m2f, AW); might have needed that outing but remains on a fairly tough mark.

11 Anonymous John – Kept busy on the AW during the winter and his most recent efforts suggested he had gone off the boil; been given a two-month break and will be fine back on turf but has done all his winning over sprint trips and others have more pressing claims.

12 Can’t Change It – Didn’t get the best of runs when fifth behind Pastoral Player over C&D at Glorious Goodwood last summer and signed off in September with convincing win at Lingfield (7f, good); subsequent 7lb rise could leave him vulnerable in this stronger race, though.

13 Arnold Lane – Steadily regressive 7yo; posted sound effort when third at Chester (7.5f, good) recently but had a good draw and enjoyed the run of the race that day; needs to find something extra to strike off the same mark here.

14 Cincuenta Pasos – Third in big field at Doncaster (7f, heavy) on final start in 2015 and has filled the same position on both outings this year, more recently when dropped back in trip at Windsor (6f, good) 17 days ago; up in class here but can given another good account.

myracing Forecast Prices: 4/1 Russian Realm, 6/1 The Warrior, 8/1 Enlace, Can’t Change It, 10/1 Sirius Prospect, Scottish Glen, Czezh It Out, Cincuenta Pasos, 12/1 Arnold Lane, 14/1 Emell, Fox Trotter, Pastoral Player, 25/1 Red Avenger, 33/1 Anonynous John
