12:10pm Southwell Tips & Betting Preview 28/11/2017

IN SUMMARY: This is a competitive handicap and the vote goes to SWIFT CEDAR. He’s a multiple winner at the track and he will improve for the return to this surface following some moderate runs on the turf. Good Time Ahead can give him most to think about with the useful 5lb claimer Jamie Gormley on board.

1 SWIFT CEDAR – Loves it at this track with multiple wins on the fibresand and he races off his last winning mark which came over 1m 3f here early last year. He’ll strip fitter for some recent efforts on the turf and commands plenty of respect for a yard in fair form (3 wins from 16 runners).

2 RITE TO REIGN – Without a victory since October 2014 which came over 2 miles. He’s dropped in trip to 1m 4f today following a remote third on the fibresand last time out and whilst worth respect in this grade, remains hard to win with.

3 SCRAFTON – A mark of 68 looks high enough for Tony Carroll’s 6yo having been raised 6lbs for a strong 3-length victory over 1m 6f here two starts ago. 1m 4f shouldn’t inconvenience him greatly but the handicapper is catching up with him at great pace.

4 OMINOTAGO – Lightly-raced mare for her age and she’s performed well this season with a win and a couple of placed efforts including on this surface. A mark of 68 is certainly within reach and the booking of Luke Morris is positive again. Respected for a yard that do well here.

5 RITA’S MAN – Well-treated against his older rivals on these terms but he makes his first start on the All-Weather for his new trainer, Keith Dalgleish. A mark of 73 looks reasonable but he barely scraped home in a Class 6 Seller and others are preferred.

6 UP TEN DOWN TWO – Has started at big prices of late having shown very little since winning a Class 6 handicap at Newcastle earlier in the year. He remains 4lbs higher than that mark today and the market will guide best again on a surface he’s yet to impress on.

7 COUSIN KHEE – Hughie Morrison doesn’t have many runners at Southwell and this well-handicapped 10yo is of interest. He’s without a win since October 2015 but that came off a 14lb higher mark and he’s run with credit over hurdles this year. He has a course win to his name and commands respect.

8 SPECIALITY – Lightly-raced 3yo filly who seeks her first career success. She makes her second start for Ralph Beckett today and only her second start in the UK having raced in France earlier in the season. She has enough form to win a race such as this. She does need to prove her liking for the surface though.

9 APALIS – Another French import who seeks her first win in the UK following success in France. She’s slowly falling down the weights to a fresh low of 61 and she’s tried at 1m 4f for the first time which will suit based on her French form. She has winning form on Soft ground which is positive.

10 GOOD TIME AHEAD – Finished third off this mark in a similar handicap earlier in the month over C&D. That entitles him to respect here and the booking of the useful 5lb claimer Jamie Gormley helps. He’s not thrown in at the weights but is entitled to give his running again.
