1.45pm Catterick Tips & Betting Preview 12/09/2017

A field of nine go to post for the first race of the day in Britain and Ireland on Tuesday. See our betting tips and the full race preview below.

IN SUMMARY: CHARNOCK RICHARD has the experience behind him and should have enough to get the head in front ahead of The Great Dandini. Whether a rating of 83 is fair or not will be shown today, but he ran well in a valuable sales race at 100/1 behind Tangled last time out and if he can run to that mark here he will take some stopping.

1 BERTIE WALLACE – Showed little encouragement on debut for Keith Dalgleish before displaying a bit more on his second start at Thirsk, finishing fifth but ultimately well beaten. He needs another big step forward to feature here and he looks sure to be more of a handicap project. Possible each way claims with another marked step forward, however others are far more interesting for win purposes.

2 CAPTAIN JAMESON – Finished a 16 length third at Nottingham on debut in softer ground, with slightly better ground and experience helping hugely as he was only beaten a length at Carlisle on his latest start. He needs further progress to feature under Jason Hart, but John Quinn’s string remain in great form and he would be no surprise in the placings if this softer ground doesn’t bog him down.

3 CHARNOCK RICHARD – Six race maiden for David Brown who holds the best claims on known form, but he’s very inconsistent which is of some concern. He posted a career best on his latest start to finish seventh in a valuable sales race at York, with this being a much easier contest. He handles softer ground and, with the in form Tom Eaves taking the ride, he should be on the premises come the finish.

4 MONT KINABALU – Showed promise on debut for Kevin Ryan when only weakening late on at Ayr in May, but he took a backwards step when fifth at Doncaster in July, beaten by 12 lengths. He is surely capable of better and he may find further improvement on softer ground. Connections are in great form and this son of Society Rock looks to have strong each way claims under Kevin Stott.

5 SIR DERRICK – Showed some ability on debut for Tim Easterby when making up some late ground inside the final two furlongs, but he subsequently followed that up with a tame effort at Redcar. That was when upped to this distance which is worrying for today’s run and softer ground is a big unknown as he’s only raced on Good to Firm in the past. He has plenty of question marks surrounding him today and is best watched.

6 THE GREAT DANDINI – Made a fairly low key debut when far too green to show his true ability at Goodwood in August, yet he left that well behind when third at Salisbury on his latest start, keeping on well and only losing second in the final strides. There is likely far more to come from him and it’s doubtful that softer ground will be any sort of issue. Seamus Durack holds a 25% strike rate from his last eight runs and he looks a solid each way contender.

8 BLYTON LASS – Only cost 6,000gns as a yearling and James Given only has the occasional first-time out winner, so this filly is already on the back foot. A daughter of Havana Gold, her pedigree suggests that she will come into her own at the one mile trip and beyond, so she’s best watched on debut.

9 BOUDICA BAY – Daughter of Rop Van Winkle who isn’t badly bred, however she does have a fair standard to aim at on debut so she will need to be fairly clued up. She races for the Eric Alston team who are in great form at present. If the market were to speak positively of her she would have definite each way claims, but one of these with experience should have her measure come the finish.

7 TWELVE A – Cost 38,000gns as a two-year-old for David O’Meara and he was better than the figures suggest when seventh on debut at Carlisle in August. He led for most of the way and was only headed entering the final furlong where he weakened. He will have learned plenty from that experience and this is a much easier race on the face of it. Sam James has been riding well of late and he looks set to land the spoils with the softer ground fine.
