Uttoxeter Betting Tips

Uttoxeter Racecourse is a National Hunt course based in Staffordshire and holds racing throughout the year. The course has established itself in recent times as one of the most progressive tracks in the UK. It hosts the gruelling Midlands Grand National in March which attracts some of the best jumps horses in the country and is a key pointer to the Aintree Grand National. Uttoxeter also runs the listed Summer Cup in June. In 2012, this race replaced the Summer National which was half a mile longer.

Uttoxeter Betting Tips

The oval track at Uttoxeter races is 1 mile 2 furlongs in distance and is run left-handed. , Due to the track’s sharp nature, our Uttoxeter tips focus on ground conditions. This is because it can pay to race prominently on good going. This is particularly true on the chase course where horses that travel well on the bridle tend to fare best. In the winter months, when the ground deteriorates to soft and worse, the track becomes a real test. During this time, the emphasis lies firmly on stamina and a horse’s ability to see out a trip. This is highlighted by the number of horses that didn’t complete the 2016 Midlands Grand National – 12 of 18 were pulled up.

Fences at Uttoxeter races aren’t particularly difficult. However, many mistakes are made nearing the end of a race due to the tough conditions. The shape of the track means that Jockeys can take different routes. Typically, the inside is the shortest route at most courses, but going wide down the back straight here isn’t an uncommon tactic.

Uttoxeter Betting Trends

Charlie Longsdon is a trainer to follow in both codes at Uttoxeter races. He has a 25% strike rate with chasers and a 21.43% strike rate over hurdles in recent years. The money on offer throughout the season at Uttoxeter is average. However, Longsdon has scooped a whopping £110,480 in prize money in the last three years with his chasers alone. Considering that none of that money came from their biggest pot of the year, the Midlands Grand National, it’s a great achievement.

With Charlie Longsdon’s impressive stats, it’s no surprise to see that his regular jockey, Richard Johnson, has earned the most prize money at over £190,000. But it’s another of Longsdon’s frequently used jockeys that catches the eye in terms of win percentages. Noel Fehily has won eight and placed in nine of his 24 chases since 2013. That gives him a strike rate of 33.33%, with his hurdles win record not too far behind at 28.57%.
