Ripon Racecourse is based in North Yorkshire and has hosted horse racing for over 300 years. An exciting atmosphere and incredible scenery along with prestigious competitions makes this a great day out for all racing lovers. Ripon is often referred to as “Yorkshire’s Garden Racecourse” due to its picturesque backdrop. There is a permanent giant screen on track, meaning that racegoers never miss the action. They even have their own on course bookmakers called RiponBET. The Ripon Champion Two Years Old Trophy and Great St Wilfrid Stakes are the two annual feature races and both take place in August.
Ripon Betting Tips
The racecourse at Ripon is a right-handed oval circuit, measuring 13 furlongs. The 5 furlong run in provides a proper test for horses. There is also a straight 6 furlong course here. The bends are very sharp and on good ground this will thoroughly suit the front runners as a lot of ground can be saved.
Ripon Draw Bias
Draw bias at Ripon has a big impact on our tips. When the ground is good or better, there is a huge bias towards those drawn high over 5 furlong sprints in fields of 12 or less. This changes for those who are drawn low in large fields. This is due to the fact that a fresh strip of ground is opened up on that side. No clear bias exists on soft ground. This is also true over 6 furlongs, although it does pay to be drawn low on soft ground. There’s a large advantage to be drawn low over the mile course at Ripon. It is worth being on the inside to save ground since horses have to negotiate a very sharp bend.
Ripon Betting Trends
The statistics show that William Haggas is the trainer to follow at Ripon. He has a stunning 44% win strike rate here over the past three seasons, with 14 winners from his last 32 runners. Richard Whitaker has a profit of +£25.25 to £1 level stakes and certainly knows how to land a nice priced winner at Ripon races.
Over the last three seasons, Daniel Tudhope has the best strike rate (24%), with 18 winners from 76 rides. That comes as no surprise since he predominantly rides for David O’Meara who has trained the most winners (27) here over the same period.
Bryan Smart may not have the same ammunition he did a few years ago but he maintains an impressive record at Ripon, and won both feature races in 2016.
