Redcar Racecourse is a seaside track based in North Yorkshire hosting flat racing throughout the summer. Traditionally in late September to early October, Redcar hosts two listed races and these are the highlights of their calendar. The Two Year Old Trophy run over 6 furlongs has a prize pool of £170,000 and was won by Limato in 2014. Guisborough Stakes is the other listed race, open to horses 3 years old and over and run over 7 furlongs. Redcar also stages the Zetland Cup which takes place on the second bank holiday in May.
Redcar Betting Tips
The track is a flat, left-handed oval of 1 mile 6 furlongs in distance. There are sharp bends to negotiate on the longer course and races between 5 furlongs and a mile are run on the straight track. The course boasts good drainage which is essential when selecting Redcar tips as conditions often suit better ground types. With no undulations, races at Redcar tend to attract better quality horses than other tracks of its kind and galloping horses regularly prosper.
Redcar Draw Bias
The draw bias at Redcar is minimal and not entirely conclusive. Over 5 furlongs, horses drawn low seem to be favoured, particularly in smaller fields. Horse drawn higher have a better record on the same course over 6 furlongs. There is no advantage on the round course.
Redcar Betting Trends
Northern trainers tend to do well at Redcar races and none more so than the Yorkshire based Richard Fahey and David O’Meara. Fahey has a strike rate of 18.89% with 34 winners and 61 places from his 180 mounts in the last three years. The O’Meara team have sent out 138 runners, yielding a return of 21 winners and 49 places for a win percentage of 15.22%. That said, it’s another yard from Yorkshire who have scooped the most prize money since 2013. The Tim Easterby stable don’t have the best strike rate with so many of their string running here. However, from 241 runners they’ve amassed over £142,000 in prizes.
Since switching codes from jumps to the flat, Graham Lee has enjoyed a lot of success and Redcar appears to be one his most popular destinations. From his 158 rides at the track he’s taken pots amounting to £221,816 in the last three years. Other jockeys of note who have had good success here recently are Danny Tudhope (17.65%), Tony Hamilton (17.46%) and Graham Gibbons (17.17%).
