Plumpton Betting Tips

Plumpton Racecourse is located in East Sussex on the beautiful South Downs. It is a National Hunt only course whose main recent claim to fame is that it is where a certain Tony McCoy rode his 3000th winner back in 2009. In an effort to improve the quality of racing, the course have run a £60,000 Cheltenham bonus scheme. This scheme applies to any horse that wins one of five novice chases at Plumpton throughout the season before following up at the Cheltenham Festival.

Plumpton Betting Tips

A sharp left-handed oval of just over a mile round, Plumpton is a test of keeping a horse balanced. The back straight runs sharply downhill and, consequently, there is a steady rise from the home turn to the finish line. The downhill back straight means that horses tend to get racing a fair way from home. As a result, fields will often be strung out here, with those able to travel with the pace strongly favoured. Despite the uphill home straight, this isn’t an easy track to come from behind on, even when the ground rides very deep in the winter as is the norm.

The chase fences down the back are a good test of an inexperienced horse. The first comes up quickly off the bend and runs slightly downhill. This fence is the one that will more often than not find out a novice. Speed is built up down the hill to a pair of fences that come up close together before the turn out the back, the second of which is an open ditch.

Plumpton Betting Trends

Tom Cannon and Chris Gordon are the pair to follow at Plumpton racecourse. The Moore family have a regular flow of winners at the track but, overall, they run at a loss. Cannon is 25/199 for a + £19.41 profit while Gordon runs at 18/137 for a level stakes profit of + £40.66. Tom Scudamore is another who rides the East Sussex track well with a 22/77 record in the last five years for a + £19.25 profit. Plumpton racecourse is the local track of trainer Suzy Smith. But being from a small yard means that her runners are often overlooked. She boasts a phenomenal 15/58 record, a 26% strike rate for a huge +£80.38 level stakes profit. Therefore, her horses should be given plenty of respect when selecting Plumpton betting tips.
