Listowel Betting Tips

Listowel Racecourse is situated in the north of County Kerry in the southwest of Ireland. Both National Hunt and flat racing are staged here. Each September the famous Harvest Festival is hosted which lasts for seven days. Only nine meetings take place at Listowel racecourse annually. The feature race of the year is the Guinness Kerry National. This is always run on a Wednesday and is a gruelling stamina test of three miles with a prize fund of €160,000.

Listowel Betting Tips

Jumps Course

Left-handed and tight, the jump track suits those who like to race close to the pace. Even when the ground turns very soft, there are not any great demands on stamina. The fences are on the stiff side for a smaller track, with seven on an outer loop, a pair down the back on the inner loop and a single fence on a chute where two and three mile races on the inner circuit start.

Flat Course

As with the jump track, the flat course is split into two loops and for 7 furlong and one mile races there is a chute that runs across to the lower of these loops. The run in is 2 furlongs and the track suits the nippy sorts. If a horse is a strong galloper, it could struggle around here. You should bear this is mind when selecting your Listowel betting tips.

Listowel Draw Bias

Since Listowel is a very sharp left-handed track, it is assumed that horses must be drawn low on the inside. However, the statistics show that this is not the case. There is no bias whatsoever from 5 furlongs up to 7 furlongs and over a mile there is only a marginal advantage to being drawn low.

Listowel Betting Trends

Over fences, Henry De Bromhead is the top trainer, with seven winners from his last 16 runners. This equates to a highly impressive return. J. P. Ryan is always a man to watch out for when he sends a runner to Listowel. He has saddled four winners from his last eight runners. Danny Mullins is the top jockey over fences, with four winners from his last eight rides.

Over hurdles, Willie Mullins is, unsurprisingly, the top trainer with a 24% strike rate. However, Austin Leahy does very well too. He doesn’t have too many runners, but three of the last six have won. In bumpers, Willie Mullins is also the top trainer whilst Anthony Mullins is 2/2 (100%). Ruby Walsh – who rides for Mullins – is the top jockey over hurdles and Patrick Mullins is the leading jockey in the Listowel bumpers.

On the flat, Dermot Weld is the top trainer at Listowel over the past three seasons, operating at a 26% strike rate. Keep an eye out for Michael Mulvaney when selecting your Listowel tips as he has had three winners from his past six runners at the racecourse, a 50% win strike rate. Pat Smullen is the top jockey on the flat. This makes sense due to the fact that he is Dermot Weld’s retained rider.
