Tips for Gowran Park Races

Located in County Kilkenny, Ireland, the first meeting took place at Gowran Park in 1914, with the first ever racecourse commentary in Ireland taking place in 1952. It hosts both National Hunt and Flat racing throughout the year.

Course: It’s a right-handed oval of a mile and a half with some undulations. It is galloping in nature and the ground can become quite testing, which puts the emphasis on stamina, especially in long distance National Hunt races. The final three furlongs are uphill meaning it can be quite difficult to make up ground, so we want our tips to be prominent going into the home straight.

Draw Bias: There is no draw bias for our tips to consider.

Feature Races: A number of high quality graded races take place over obstacles at Gowran Park. The Galmoy Hurdle, Red Mills Chase and the Gowran Park Champion Chase are all Grade 2’s. In January they have the Thyestes Chase which is a high quality staying handicap won in the past by top horses such as Hedgehunter, Numbersixvalverde and Djakadam.
