Gowran Park Racecourse is a picturesque track located in the Annely Estate in Gowran, County Kilkenny, Ireland. It is situated just 13 kilometres away from Kilkenny City. Gowran Park hosts 16 racedays annually and is home to both National Hunt and flat meetings. The feature race of the year is the Thyestes Chase held in January. The Red Mills Trial is run in February with some horses prepping for Cheltenham taking part. The flat season begins during the May Bank Holiday weekend and it’s well worth a visit.
Gowran Park Betting Tips
Gowran Park’s National Hunt course is oval in shape with sweeping right-handed bends. A full circuit of the track measures roughly a mile and a half and it suits a galloping type down to the ground. The course can become extremely testing when it becomes soft. The chase course is on the outside of the hurdles track and there are seven fences to each circuit, three of which come on the home straight, with a stiff uphill finish to the line.
Gowran Park’s flat racecourse is an undulating right-handed oval track which measures 1 mile and 4 furlongs in circumference. The final climb to the finish is a 3 furlong straight which can be extremely testing, especially in soft conditions. It is a speed track and so it can often suit front runners and when a horse gets a soft lead it can be very hard to peg them back.
Gowran Park Draw Bias
There isn’t much of a draw bias at Gowran Park races, but over 7 furlongs a low draw can be very important. The bend is extremely close to the starting stalls, meaning that getting caught wide is a big possibility if drawn high. Other than that, Gowran Park is a relatively fair track with not too many hard luck stories.
