Bangor on Dee Racecourse is located near Wrexham in North Wales. It is a National Hunt only track, famed for having no Grandstand. Racegoers instead stand on a hill which is located past the winning line on the bend out of the home straight.

Bangor on Dee Betting Tips

A left-handed track of almost a mile and a half in length, the course is gently undulating with a number of sharp turns. There is also a right-handed kink as they race away from the ‘stands.’  Almost triangular in shape, our Bangor tips often focus on horses who travel well as the feel on board is one of seemingly always being on the turn.  Horses off the bridle at an early stage are likely to struggle, with those racing handy tending to get away from them on quick ground.  Races at Bangor tend to be run at a good clip. This can have a detrimental effect on front runners when the ground gets very testing, as it is prone to in midwinter.

The fences are generally considered a decent test, with the last three in the back straight coming relatively close together. This provides a novice chaser with a quick-fire education. The hurdles are spaced with one on the side, three down the back and two up the home straight.  A very fair test for a novice, with stars like Denman and Iris’s Gift both providing previews of their ability at the Bangor track.

Bangor on Dee Betting Trends

Favourites have a good record in non-handicaps, chases especially, with a monstrous 63% strike rate (26/41). However, with so many short prices in the betting it has yielded a level stakes profit of just +£14.16. Handicaps are more typical with the majority of courses, with 31% of favourites winning.

Brian Ellison doesn’t send many runners to the track – just 22 in the last five seasons. He has come away with 6 winners and a +£15.50 profit, so it’s worth studying his raiders closely.

One other train to note is Warren Greatrex, who has been in fine form at Bangor recently. He’s had 12 winners from 32 runners in the last 5 seasons, for a 38% strike rate and profit of +£27.09. Those include a very impressive 8 winners in 11 runners in the 2015-2016 season. Expect his runners to be featured in our Bangor betting tips over the winter.
