Our tipsters' strongest bets for this meeting

Sky Bet And Symphony Group Handicap (Class 2)
Fashion Queen silk

Fashion Queen

A fascinating handicap in prospect here, but preference is for FASHION QUEEN who returned to form when second in a Listed race at Deauville last time out. She is a previous course winner, so will have no issues with this track, and arrives here on what looks a workable mark for her handicap debut. Fendale has shown respectable form here recently and could run into a place today.

Tattersalls Acomb Stakes (Group 3) (Class 1)
Ventura Ocean silk

Ventura Ocean

Watan made a winning debut at the Glorious Goodwood festival last time out and cannot be ruled out here if building on that run. At the prices, however, VENTURA OCEAN is taken to build on his recent Pontefract success and land this for the powerful Richard Fahey and Paul Hanagan trainer/jockey combination. Phoenix Of Spain won with plenty in hand at Wolverhampton last month and is respected if building on that back on turf.

Sky Bet Great Voltigeur Stakes (Group 2) (Colts & Geldings) (Class 1)
Old Persian silk

Old Persian

Cross Counter continued his progression when landing the Gordon Stakes at Goodwood last time out, breaking the track record in the process. He cannot be discounted here, but preference is for his stablemate OLD PERSIAN. The race was not run to suit him in the Irish Derby last time out, but his success prior to that, in the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot, entitles him to plenty of respect this afternoon.

Juddmonte International Stakes (British Champions Series) (Group 1) (Class 1)
Poet's Word silk

Poet's Word

POET’S WORD is shaping up to be the top middle distance horse in Europe this season, following wins in the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes and the King George at Ascot. He is a typical late bloomer from the Sir Michael Stoute yard and may yet have more improvement to come. Roaring Lion is the obvious danger after his Eclipse win, while Without Parole may do better back on a more conventional track and up in trip.

Sky Bet Handicap (Class 2)
Here And Now silk

Here And Now

HERE AND NOW was behind Northwest Frontier when they met over course and distance last month but the selection is lightly raced and caught the eye there as the one to be with on this occasion. His two best performances have both come at this track so he has to be of huge interest at York once more. Speedo Boy won on his first try at this trip at Ascot, he is another open to better in a cracking looking staying handicap and can fill the frame.

Sky Bet Nursery Handicap (Class 2)
Evie Speed silk

Evie Speed

EVIE SPEED was fourth in a race that’s working out well at Doncaster two starts back. The winner has scored in a Group 3 since, with the runner-up – who beat her three-quarters of a length off levels – now rated 91. An opening mark of 80 looks well on the light side therefore on her handicap debut. Richard Fahey has won this three times in the last six years so his Eljayeff looks second best, especially with a form line that suggests he should beat Glorious Goodwood winner Don Armado.
