Nigel Twiston-Davies – My Runners 2nd and 3rd December 2017

Nigel Twiston-Davies Weekly Column

Busy busy at the Nigel Twiston-Davies yard this morning as we caught the main man on the gallops putting the finishing touches to the morning’s work but he still found time to tell us that Bristol De Mai is in rude health at home after last weekend’s Betfair Chase win before moving on to discuss his runners this weekend.

Nigel’s Charity Bet

As always, we’ve given Nigel a £50 charity bet to place on a horse of his choice – and this week it will be on……

Cogry 3.00pm Newbury Saturday

” I was very pleased with how well he jumped and how easily he won on his return to action at Cheltenham and he has unsurprisingly showed the benefit of his first run in six months on the schooling grounds since. He has been put up six pounds but he is still improving at the age of eight and I really think he has an excellent chance again this afternoon.”

If Cogry wins we’ll donate the winnings to the Injured Jockeys Fund!

Saturday runners:

Angels Antics 12.10pm Newbury

“This looks a high-quality renewal and I am wary that she may be outclassed in this line up but it is a Listed race with some decent prize money, and I am hoping we can place today and pick up some black type for her owners this afternoon.”

Little Jon 1.20pm Newbury

“He does have a bit to do in this line-up but he is coming down the handicap towards a winning mark and is working well at home which gives me hope. I’m hoping for some improvement this afternoon and a place is a distinct possibility, maybe more!”

Jabulani 1.50pm Newbury

“I like him a lot and he has done nothing but improve lately with a six-length win at Lingfield last time out. He makes his handicap debut this afternoon and we will know whether he is well weighted or not after the race but I do expect a big run this afternoon regardless.”

Double Ross 3.00pm Newbury

“He finished third in this race last season off two pounds higher and will run his usual decent race again this afternoon, but he is eleven now and I see no reason why he should do better. It would be nice if he places though, hopefully behind Cogry of course.”

Sunday runners:

Astracad 1.45pm Leicester

“He took one of these Veteran’s events last season at Cheltenham off a rating of 131 and gets in here of two pounds lower which seems pretty generous. He ran well enough in third last time out and is coming to himself at home and I think he has a great chance of winning again this afternoon.”
