Nigel Twiston-Davies: My Weekend’s Runners – 11th March

Nigel Twiston-Davies has horses running all over the country this weekend and as part of his new weekly column he’s shared his views exclusively with myracing.com about their chances.

Nigel’s Charity Bet

Nigel’s pick for his £25 Charity Bet this week is:

3.10pm Sandown – Flying Angel each way at 14/1

£12.50 each way returns £243.75 if he wins which will be donated to the Injured Jockey’s Fund

Saturday’s Runners

1.50pm Chepstow – Wood Yer

“Been off for ages (last ran October 2014) so all I can suggest is a watching brief. He does go well fresh and is a nice old horse but on heavy ground this could be asking a bit too much today.”

2.00pm Sandown – Ballypoint

“Another making his handicap debut today but we think quite a bit of him at home and are looking for a good run. He will find out after the race whether the handicapper has it right or not and to be honest, we really aren’t sure just yet”.

3.10pm Sandown – Flying Angel

“A lovely improving gelding (a son of Arcadio) he is getting better race by race and going the right way. Third in the Betfair Hurdle (behind Agrapart and Starchitect), he has been put up three pounds which seems reasonable and we are hoping for a good run.”

4.55pm Sandown – Minella Reception

“Absolutely murdered his field at Warwick last time out and has been put up eight pounds for the privilege. He is a nice enough horse but we aren’t sure that form really adds up to as much as the handicapper thinks and although he could well follow up (fingers crossed), we aren’t 100% convinced.”

5.20pm Chepstow – Another Frontier

“A young imposing sort who we quite like, but then again this is his first time in a handicap, so we don’t really know. He handles this heavy going well enough and stays this far and I am pretty hopeful of a big run from him today.”

Sunday Runners

2.30pm Warwick – Abigail Lynch

“The heavy ground certainly isn’t ideal but we are running out of opportunities to get a run in to her. She is a decent horse and the experience will do her good but we don’t think the going will suit her sadly.”

3.40pm Warwick – Ballyrath

“Sent off at a silly price at Huntingdon last week before unseating Sam after a silly mistake at the fifth when going superbly. He schooled well this morning (Friday) so we hope that sort of error is now behind him, and if he jumps around cleanly he must have very chance of success today.”

Cheltenham News

“This morning saw our last piece of serious work ahead of the Cheltenham Festival and I could not be more pleased with all of my entries. At this stage we are waiting to see which handicaps they will or won’t get in to (they are all so oversubscribed this year), but exciting times lie ahead, and I look forward to talking to you all next week ahead of “the big one.”
