Nigel Twiston-Davies Stable Update 27/01/2018

Nigel Twiston-Davies Weekly Column

Nigel has been looking forward to this weekend at Cheltenham but will mainly be hoping all his runners come back safe and sound from their Festival trials as he puts the finishing touches to his plans for the biggest race meeting of the year. Nigel also told us that The New One returned in good from after his history making win at Haydock last weekend and will now be trained for the Stayers Hurdle in March.

Nigel’s Charity Bet

As always, we’ve given Nigel a £25 charity bet to place on a horse of his choice – and this week it will be on……

Flying Angel 3.15pm Doncaster Saturday

“My runner looks like a bit of value in this field and although he hasn’t won a race so far this season he has been showing up well on the home gallops again and looks ready to get off the mark in this highly competitive handicap. Going trip and track all look fine to me and he looks better weighted now and with Sam on board I have to hope for a huge run this afternoon.”

If Flying Angel wins, we’ll donate the winnings to the Injured Jockeys Fund!

Saturday Selections:

Bristol De Mai 2.25pm Cheltenham

With the exception of a couple of ulcers nothing has really come to light to explain his way below form performance at Kempton on Boxing Day and I assure you, we have pulled out all the stops to find an explanation. Maybe he just had an off day (we all have them), and he is working as well as ever at home and on the schooling ground and I am pretty hopeful he can bounce back to his best and put this race to bed with the minimum of fuss.”

Wholestone 3.35pm Cheltenham

“One look at his race record will tell you that he saves his best for this track (I am delighted to say) with four wins from six career starts as well as a second and a third. He won’t mind the soft ground at all which is a plus, or the trip, and although Finian’s Oscar is an intriguing rival we have the better form in the book and I am confident of a huge race again this afternoon.”
