Nigel Twiston-Davies – My Runners 7th & 8th January

Icy weather is playing havoc with the racing as we all know but Nigel reports his horses have not had to stop any work thanks to the all-weather gallop, and although he has a quiet weekend he still has some runners worthy of a mention.

Nigel’s Charity Bet

Robinshill 3.35pm Sandown – 12/1 Best Odds Guaranteed

A £50 win bet will be placed with any returns being donated to the Injured Jockeys Fund.

Saturday runners:

Astracad 300pm Sandown

“He is a lovely horse and I have a lot of time for him but the faster the going the better these days, and I am worried it may be a bit too soft for him by race time with rain forecast overnight. Having said that there is a £100,000 pot up for grabs and you don’t find too many of those restricted to veteran chasers so we have to give it a go, and he won’t disgrace himself if he gets his ground.”

Robinshill 3.35pm Sandown

“I do think he is overpriced and the bookies are insulting him a little, after all he has done very little wrong in winning three of his last four races including last time out at Ffos Las on heavy ground. He isn’t the sort to impress and only does enough to win but I know he is still a bit better than that and he has chances despite shouldering top weight here.”

Sunday runners:

Horseguardsparade 4.00pm Chepstow

“He is proving pretty tough to win with and is what you might politely call a tricky character with his own ideas about the game! Last time out he did finish second at Ffos Las only beaten a neck but I can’t say he is one we can really rely on, though he could yet run a decent race, even if that seems to be his own decision.”
