Nigel Twiston-Davies – My Runners 26th June 2016

Nigel Twiston-Davies column.

It’s summer time apparently though you wouldn’t know it from the recent inclement weather and the better ground has given me the chance to race a few more horses than I normally would at this time of year.

Nigel’s Charity Bet

Ballykan 3.30pm Uttoxeter each way at 16/1

If he wins, a donation of £265.00 will be sent to the Injured Jockeys Fund (£52.50 if he places).

Sunday

Ballykan 3.30pm Uttoxeter

“We have simply got to have a go at this race with its amazing £80,000 in guaranteed prize money but then again, it looks like everyone else feels the same way!  Thanks to the presence of Menorah at the top we do have to run from seven pounds out of the handicap (my horse has to carry more than his allotted handicap mark) but Jamie Bargary takes five off so we aren’t that far wrong in the end. It is a good race so you can never be super confident but I have him where I want him, he has won round here so we know he handles the track, and I don’t see the extra trip as an issue either, so I am still hoping for a decent effort.”

Double Court 4.05pm Uttoxeter

“Not one of the stable stars but we are hoping the return to two miles can see him show a bit more spark than he has in recent outings over considerably further. He is actually a half-brother to the sorely missed Little Josh who was a lot better than him, I can’t honestly say I am confident about him here and a watching brief makes a bit more sense than a bet”
